Pro's & Con's of Rosetta Stone

If you have a library card, sometimes your library has an association with Rosetta Stone where you can use it for free. That's what I'm doing.

My wife and I are interested in learning Latin Spanish. So count me in

I have used Pimsleur Russian (3rd Edition). it's 90 30-minute lessons. It's done fine for me. I've learned the reading on my own. But I also purchased a CD of profane Russian words. They've actually come in handy on a number of occasions in Eastern Europe.

On their website there is a place you can request a free copy. I got one, though its functionality isn't that great since it is just free-ware. I think if I had the money right now, I would get a full copy.

This is actually a good idea. I'm sure several members on VJ have different versions of Rosetta Stone. We could help each other out this way. Everything with this process is already expensive without trying to buy 'the luxuries'.

Except that it's illegal to be pirating copies of it... I don't think I'd be advertising doing that if I were you

I have the Arabic version and was wicked into it for a while and then I lost interest. Of course now I wish I had kept it up since I'll be needing it in a few days. Oh well. I gave up when it got kind of hard. I do know basic words like for boy, girl, jump, walk, etc. but I can't put together a full sentence to save my life. I guess I can just shout out "bint" when I see a girl on the street and call it a day.

Thanks for all the excellent input. It has occured to me that it might get boring but I live in a small town and I have zero options for learning Russian. I have to do it on my own. I received the freeware from Rosetta Stone and it looks like it might help me out. I was able to pick up on some things I had not noticed before. I find it very useful for learning that damn Cyrillic alphabet! Nini & Bee, e-mail me if you find it and we can discuss the options. JoeMama, love to see a copy of the profane words just so I know when I am getting bitched out, not that I wouldn't be able to recognize it anyway LOL.

To all... I would be careful about discussing the copying and distribution of copywrited and proprietary information. This is a forum that keeps (and makes available) records of your conversations of such things. PM's would be a better way to communicate your intentions.

I got a kick out of your post. As I read it I saw that you used the word "wicked" and I thought fondly of an old friend of mine from Marshfiled, MA. I looked and sure enough, you are from Boston. Thanks for the memory. Takes me back about 30 years!
