I-134 Question

Hi All:

I have a question regarding the !-134, Affidavit of Support and I am sure this questiona has been asked and answered somewhere already and forgive me for asking it again.

Anyway, I am trying to complete the form and I am getting "stuck" on question #7, part 2- I have on deposit in savings banks in the United States. Are they asking for savings accounts or all types of bank accounts? I hope this was not a stupid question to ask.

Also While I am asking, I was wondering if I had to submit the asset information, if my income meets/exceeds the income guidelines? Maybe it depends on the consulate where my husband will be going for his interview. I am sure the Lagos Consulate wants to see everything.

I'd rather be safe than sorry in this situation.

Please help. Thanks a bunch.

Well, my US citizen spouse sent in a bank letter signed by the bank manager stating account details. We also enclosed a latest copy of bank statement along with that...of his checking account. thats it.

Also to let you know, at my interview i was not able to present the i-134 but still granted the visa the same day.

I dont mean to say that you can do without submitting it but we could'nt since my husband was out of station and he could'nt manage it on time.

At a later stage when you have to file in for AOS, I-864 - the affidavit of support is one of the very important documents that you need to take care of ..

The USCIS gives more emphasis on the I-864 as a affidavit of support compared to the I-134. This is my feeling

If your income exceeds 125% of the poverty line, then don't bother with assets like bank balances, I put zero for that, it only gives the consular officer more questions to ask.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

  • I-134 signed and notarized.
  • Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS
  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years
  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.
  • Photo copies of past 6 months pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.

If you list the asset things the consular officer then just has more to ask questions about and you will have to provide more financial evidence. I have bank accounts, 401k and other things but did not list them on the I-134.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Hi:

Thanks for the information. I will use it.

Also, I was wondering if you would be able to show me an example of the I-134 for those individuals who meet/exceed the poverty guidelines.

Thanks and God Bless.

If your income is sufficient, you can skip all the asset questions. Just leave them blank.

Other than the personal information, an example of an I-134 in which the sponsor meets or exceeds the poverty guidelines would be simply indicating an amount on the line that says "I derive an annual income of: $xxx, xxx. Of course you must support the amount indicated with tax returns, pay stubs or other evidence

That is all I included on mine.

YMMV
