K-1 taking too long, we got married instead

Hi everyone.

 

I filed K-1 back in August 2021. The process has been taking forever, which has been frustrating. Also, he's from a high-risk country which could mean an even longer processing time. So we decided to get married yesterday in his home country instead.  How do I now cancel K-1? And how long do I need to wait before applying for the CR-1 visa?

You can apply immediately for CR-1 and while doing so, put a note asking for K-1 to be closed/ withdrawn.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

No need to wait for filing for a spousal visa.  As @Timonasaid, send a letter to USCIS withdrawing the I129F, but you do not need to wait for notice of receipt of that letter to start the CR1 process.
