NVC stage - awaiting new passport

Hi All,

My wife had applied for a passport address change in India one month ago, and while her current passport was marked as canceled at her appointment, her new passport has not arrived yet. Her IR1 case is at NVC.

Our NVC 1 year deadline is approaching fast, and I have already paid the fees and will be soon uploading some documents as well. I wanted to submit the document before the year is up. Can I upload her current passport in lieu of the new passport even though it has been marked canceled (I would like to do that if possible) ? Or should I upload everything else (fees is already paid) and then submit after we get the passport even though the 1 year date may be crossed?

You don't have to rush anything if it's not what you want. The 1 year hold is automatically renewed if you contact NVC. So just call NVC or contact them through the inquiry form and your petition will be automatically extended for another year. If you paid the fees recently, then that too is considered as NVC hearing from you so you should be good as well.

Also, yes you can upload current expired passport, and take both the expired and new one to the interview at Embassy.

For the expired passport, just include a detailed reason that you are still waiting for a new passport.
