Howdy everyone!

I need advice. Hubby and I are flying next week with UA to Argentina. I’d really, really like to try for an upgrade in class. I know it’s a long shot, but how does one go about asking for an upgrade?

I know chances are slim, but…

So I just saw CBP act at the airport. We’re leaving for Argentina and right as we were entering the international flight, I saw what looked and sounded like an Argentinian police officer questioning a young lady. All I heard is “who were you visiting?” And “are you sure he’s not your boyfriend?”. Mind you, this is the departure flight, which I thought weird.

I flew Spirit Airlines in April of this year. It was a 2 leg flight. So, at IAH, I got boarding passes for both legs and was surprised that I was gonna be sitting in the same seat number, which happened to be the middle seat, on both legs. I was also disappointed because I was going to be sandwiched on both legs. I wanted to go back and ask if the check in lady could change one leg but knowing how rude they tend to be, I just kept murm and went my way, albeit not happy. 

 

So, Spirit Airlines has this lucky seat game that they play. I've flown this airline multiple times but I have never heard them play this game. I guess I never just pay attention 🤷🏽‍♂️. Anyways, few minutes before we land at FLL, the attendant goes on the intercom and asks us to check the seat trays for lucky sticker and if you find it, press the "call attendant button" for her to come award you a coupon for 500 points. I'm never lucky, so I don't care and wait to hear if someone rings the button. After 1 minute, no one rang it and the attendant was like "No one, no one?" So, at this point I flip my tray and voila, I have the sticker. Man, was I so happy. I rang that button and got my 500 coupon. 

 

Now, I had a 2 hour layover. So while at FLL, I decide to redeem it. Tried it 5 times and it gave me an error code claiming ticket was already redeemed. I was so fumed and was like "well, nothing surprising. I guess I wasn't meant to win as usual." However, I get pissed and approach the check in and inform one of the ladies who tell me I'll have to wait and ask the inboard flight attendants for another. 

 

Now, when we got off the plane, I had looked at my ticket for the next flight and surpsingly, it was leaving from the same gate. Normally, I always shift to another gate for the second leg. Now, during my layover, I noticed this plane never moved and the announcement screen next to the jetway entrance had my final destination as the next flight 😁. Do you know where this is going?? I'll tell you.

 

We board the next flight and I immediately tell the next flight attendant about my problem redeeming the coupon. She immediately gives me another of equal value and I go sit down, guess where?? The same seat as the first leg!!! So, definitely I'm getting another coupon, if the game is played. Anyway, I quickly try to redeem the new coupon before I lose connection and it gives me the same error message. I'm fuming at this point and cursing at how unlucky I am. However, I take a screenshot of the error and keep quiet.

 

Right before landing at my final destination, the attendant announced the lucky seat game. It's still me, so I wait, wait till everyone tries their luck 🤭 and then press the button. The same attendant who gave me the replacement comes and is surprised. I then tell her that the replacement didn't work and she goes above and beyond to try and help but to no avail. She then awards me two 1000 points coupon and tells me to try them later and if they don't work, call customer service. I'm happy. She then wants to give me complementary food for my troubles. I turn it down. She leaves. I guess she felt bad and went and told her manager about it because the next thing I see is a manager talking to me and apologizing for my misfortunes. She then insisted on complementary foods and was like "I insist." So I agreed and got free pringles and a can of sprite. 

 

Well, I redeemed both 1000 a week later. I had even forgotten about them till I went fishing for something in my bag. 

 

Spirit Airlines is not bad, imho. It's the only airlines that gets me to my final destination for ½ the price and sometimes, depending on the day you travel, ½ the time. United goes there but opposite of the preceeding sentence. So, I just have to sulk it and use them. 

 

 

And ladies and gentlemen, that was how I was lucky. Remember, I wanted to go back and ask for a different seat? Glad I didn't.

Iguazu is bucket list!  I have an Argentinian friend and colleague who's never been.  I told her we will go together
