Immediately I read it I knew something wasn’t passing muster. I know it sounds counterintuitive but thank CBP, they saved you from being on the hook for ten years.

Alternatively if anyone calls allegedly from CBP asking you to send money before he’s released or deported, know it’s a scam they’re running on you.

Of course we may all be wrong and he’s a straight up guy who loves you and this is all an unfortunate mistake however the chances of that are slim and none. Usually when there is a smoke, there is a fire somewhere.

I wish you peace and strength.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

So I looked the other thread linked above. He’s from Nigeria, and there are direct flights from the US to Lagos. What does London have to do with it? Did he tell you this “London” information or did someone from CBP tell you?

No direct flights from Lagos to O'Hare. But, there is a British Airways/ American ticket that transits through London.

He is Nigerian and presumably does not have a UK visa but could transit with a US one.

Won't be able to return via London because they cancelled the K1. He doesn't have a US visa anymore...

There are direct flights from Washington. They might be waiting on moving him from O'Hare to Dulles and then flying him back to Lagos on a direct flight.

Flights are on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday (all 18:40).

Maybe there are other direct flights but I didn't look too hard.

There is a British Airlines Flight Lagos to London to Chicago. Those flights arrived 19 May at 14:50; 13:35 or 10:05...

I'm surprised you didn't hear from anyone on the 19th.

If he really is detained he might be sent back to Nigeria today (Saturday).

From your previous post you had a gut feeling you are being used. Seems CBP might be saving you some headache in the future.

Keep us posted.

Does he actually require a visa to travel via London? A while back I read that you don't need a visa to transit via UK provided you stay put at the airport.

I travel a lot and since Kenya is a 20 hour flight minimum, I transit via other countries. I have never got visas for those countries.

Understandably, there's a direct flight from NY to Nairobi via Kenya Airways. I would never board Kenya Airways. I'd rather walk if that was my last option.  🤣

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I don't think there was any CBP person involved in all this

sounds like the immigrant got here and pretended not to be admitted as he had other plans to join a different USC he had been talking to

just as the OP suspected

Nigerians require transit visa according to this questionnaire

I chose transit and not leaving the airport.

Exemptions

You do not need a visa if you have one of the following:

  • a visa for Canada, New Zealand, Australia or the USA (this can be used for travel to any country)
  • a permanent resident visa issued by Australia or New Zealand
  • a common format residence permit issued by an European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland
  • a permanent resident card issued by Canada on or after 28 June 2002
  • a uniform format category D visa for entry into a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland
  • an Irish biometric visa (marked ‘BC’ or ‘BC BIVS’ in the ‘Remarks’ section)
  • a Schengen Approved Destination Scheme (ADS) group tourism visa where the holder is travelling to a Schengen country
  • a flight ticket from the Schengen area, if you can prove that you entered the Schengen area in the previous 30 days on the basis of a valid Schengen ADS visa
  • a valid USA I-551 Temporary Immigrant visa issued by the USA (a wet-ink stamp version will not be accepted)
  • a valid USA permanent residence card issued by the USA on or after 21 April 1998
  • an expired USA I-551 Permanent Residence card issued by the USA on or after 21 April 1998, with a valid I-797 letter authorising extension
  • a valid standalone US Immigration Form 155A/155B issued by the USA (attached to a sealed brown envelope)

Not from O’Hara but there is ohare-Dulles-Lagos. I think there are direct flights from texas to Lagos as well. Surely no one is seriously suggesting CBP would rather keep someone indefinitely detained at an airport for lack of a visa on one route where there is another route for them to get home.

edit: ok, saw the rest of what you said re this

Exactly. The timing is off. Something isn’t adding up.

That hasn’t been the case for years for people from a whole bunch of countries for UK transit. You either need a transit visa or an exemption via holding various other visas (or a green card).i don’t think schengen countries require transit visas (or at least they didn’t when I last used them before I got my shiny blue US passport )

It is a more complicated deportation as he needs to be moved internally first.

My fiancé traveled on the 18th of May and currently he is being detained at the Chicago Border Protection. His visa has been canceled and they can’t fly him home because London will refuse him. I was advised to contact my Congressman, but I can’t get a hold of anyone after business hours. He is being held like a criminal and we don’t know what to do. He is still in the United States. I just want him here with me. Any suggestions would be helpful

I remember a few days ago you posted saying that you thought you were being used for a visa. Perhaps immigration found something that confirms that, or is suspicious?

Has he told you any info on why he is being detained? Did he call you?  Or were you informed by them?

OP,  I can see that you're actively reading this thread right now.  Why have you not responded to any of the questions or comments?

Have you confirmed that he is in fact being detained?

Involving congress makes no sense - they are never going to interfere with CBP doing it's job.   And the thing about London refusing him also makes no sense.  They would return him to his country of citizenship.
