After a yearslong fight for equal pay, U.S. Soccer and the women’s and men’s national teams have announced a historic collective bargaining agreement to close the gender pay gap and assure every player, man or woman, is paid equally.

The U.S. Women's National Team has dominated the soccer world, winning four FIFA Women's World Cup titles since the competition's founding in 1991, all while fighting for equitable pay. At the 2019 World Cup in France, chants of "Equal Pay!" reverberated in the stands in support.

The collective bargaining agreement between U.S. Soccer and the men’s and women’s national team unions is the final step in cementing the new policy of equal pay.

Huh?

 

The US men’s team has zero chance of winning the World Cup.  The US women’s team is the nfs Obote to win the World Cup each year.  So didn’t the women just agree to halve their pay?

Men scraped in this year and are guaranteed in 4 years and I think the money they get for turning up is more than the Women do for winning

 

Plus the womens game is changing so unlikely US will walk it in the future 

 

Interestingly the England mens team donate their appearance fee to charity and have done so for a very long time

Each team in the men’s tournament  gets $2.5M for showing up.  
 

Also FIFA gives the money to each team’s national soccer federation not the players.  The national federation could decide to pay out zero.

There are 18 players on the roster. $4M per player per year is $55K a year. With split with the men, this is reduced to $45K

 

The men now go from $34K to $45K.  Aren’t most of the men in pro leagues?

 

Gotta love virtue signaling.

An interesting question when was the last time a non pro player played in the World Cup, not the ladies one.
