Good day,

I would like to make an enquiry. My case is at NVC for IR1 VISA

I recently got an admission offer to study in the UK for my MSC.

I would like your honest opinion if it is advisable to continue with the UK process or not.

Thanks.

Congrats on acceptance to your MSC program.

there are some unknown that you will have to think about.

How far back are you in the backlog?

how long is your MSC program?

Will the embassy work faster to clear the backlog?

If you are able to answer those questions then you will have your answer.

Currently the last known IR1 visas scheduled is from about 16/17 months ago.

Also I think that you should be able to "activate" your visa, leave for up to a year after applying for parole return to complete your MSC (not 100% certain, please confirm)

You will also be able to change your embassy to UK, hopefully they have less of a backlog.

There are multiple variables that can occur depending on how you proceed.

Have you submitted documents to NVC and are you waiting for DQ?

Nigeria has a backlog. So, if you wanted to keep your appointment there you could probably study in the UK before moving to the US.

May 10- someone was still waiting for IR1 interview and they were DQ'ed January 2021.

But, the UK has no backlog. So, if you have already submitted all your documents to NVC and you transfer the case to the UK.

You might be able to move to the US in the next 4-5 months.

I am not sure of your situation.

If you have not submitted any of your documents to NVC you could delay your case for a year or so....

Thank you for the reply.

I gave it a thought since Nigeria is behind with backlogs. Instead of waiting for 15-20 months doing nothing in my home country, I then decided to apply to schools to further my education.

The UK MSC program is 9–12 months, and the program starts in September 2022.

All documents have been submitted to the NVC

My question is, will I be able to transfer my case to the UK after being documentarily qualified or will I have to come back to my home country to finish up the process?

I do not mind either way. I just need to get myself busy with the MSC program.

Thanks

When did you submit your documents?

You can request a transfer after you have been DQ'ed

If your case is at a U.S. embassy or consulate, contact the potential gaining U.S. embassy or consulate in writing to request a transfer of your case.  Please include a justification for the request.  If you are not a resident of that country, specify that in your request

Just email London and request the transfer. Submit evidence you are a resident of the UK. Maybe submit the transfer request 6 months after you arrive...

London interviews appear to be happening very quickly. You will have to leave for the UK before your visa expires (6 months after medical). So, you do not want the interview scheduled  8 months or so before you are ready to leave the UK.

Thank you for your reply.

I submitted my documents to the NVC on November 15, 2021; one was rejected; and I re-submitted on April 7, 2022. waiting.

Since I am aware of the backlog in Nigeria, I decided to pursue a master's degree in the UK pending the time the application will be processed and the NVC/ embassy will schedule an interview.

I do not wish to delay my case as I plan to continue with the NVC process concurrently, It would help if I am documentarily qualified and will be able to transfer the case to the UK as Nigeria is behind with backlogs.

NVC can be so tricky!

Hopefully you get DQ'ed next month... right now NVC is taking 76 days so you should get your answer around June 21/22. Go to the UK in September. Around November/December request a transfer. I believe transfer can take a couple of months. Maybe that gets you to Feb/March then you interview sometime in April or May... you have 6 months to leave the UK after the medical.

If the request is denied, you go back to Nigeria to wait for your interview date. And take along your UK PCC...

ETA maybe have a read in the UK forum to see if anyone has reported a transfer request so you can understand the timeline.
