“And how much does one need to earn annually to afford a Tesla? A buyer seeking to purchase a Tesla Model 3 for $47,690 would need to earn about $111,000 annually, or $6,562 take-home to cover the $652 monthly payment.”

Average New-Car Price Tops $47,000, an All-Time High

A Consumer Reports analysis helps car shoppers find the best deals amid record prices

Take a close look at the date of that article.

So if you

* are buying new

* have a private garage

* can provision a 240V/30A or 240V/50A circuit in that garage

* aren’t filling that garage with stuff other than cars like most people in homes without basements do (I’ve lived in California a combined 15 years, never have parked my car anywhere but in a garage, never will),

* aren’t using your car for primarily road trips, and

* don’t live in the snow belt

then it clearly a practical EV (I.e. a Tesla) is no less affordable than an ICE.  And considering you won’t be paying for oil changes, brakes, transmission fluid changes, spark plugs, alternators, solenoids, radiators, piston rings, head gaskets, push rods, $4-$7 equivalent per gallon of gas, etc an EV is actually vastly cheaper.

Granted it is a lot of IFs.  But it fits my profile.  So I have an EV.  Bonus is  it has life time super charging and unless another car totals it, I will probably die before it does. And so it gets used for road trips.

For the cost of entry and maintenance reasons I’ve noted, a used EV likely costs more than used ICE from the same model year and same MSRP.  So I will concede that used EVs are still too expensive.

There just aren’t that many 2017 Teslas around compared to the number of new ones being made.  And yes I am totally dismissing  every other EV maker besides Tesla, because they have missed their market window and the greed of their dealers have ruined what little brand loyalty they had.

I completely agree, EVs will work for some, potentially many, and Tesla certainly is leading the way.  I have never been a big fan of their styling, but early adopters tend to overlook things like that,  Which Model do you have?  About 3 miles from me is a Tesla dealership/service location, so I see a lot of Tesla's around the area here.  My neighbor recently sold her Toyota and got a Model Y.  The funny thing is her boyfriend has a Subaru, and whenever they take a road trip that is the vehicle they take.  I am curious if Tesla will continue to increase the amount of service centers in the future.  I know when they started, they would either do the service work on-site or get the vehicle and take it to a central location, but as they grow further, that model is not really sustainable except for maybe their highest paying customers.  I know in MI, they are limited as to how they can conduct sales, but even EVs can have issues such as interior problems with seats, or other class A surfaces (i.e. it is not all software).

I need to get my wife a new car soon, and I considered an EV based on her driving, but for what she wants (pretty much all the bells and whistles), and the fact that we will only keep it for a minimum of 3.5 years, the business case for an EV did not make sense.  Sure we would save money over those 3.5 years, but not enough to overcome the difference in the MSRP for comparably equipped ICE or EV vehicles.  Plus our electric service is maxed right now, so I would either need to bring in another 50A+ service, or get an electrician in and juggle the current box (we are all electric except for the HWH, and Furnace).

Have not been very interested in buying an EV.  I've had a Toyota Camry hybrid in the past and that's the way I would probably go in the future (hybrid).

Got a friend with a Tesla 3 and wife and I went on a trip with him and his wife across the state.  Did not like that car at all.

My daughter ordered a model Y last November and hopes to have it in the next month or so.

I had toyed with the idea of putting down a $250 deposit on a Fisker Ocean but my wife let me know I was NOT going to be so foolish (that's the mild version).

Yeah my buddy at work clarified that. They were counting on the Hispanics in case the African Americans ever figure out the whole world is not racist and how bad the dems have been screwing them.

Probably most of them are those who would vote for (anyone, any criminal, any incompetent) with a "D" after their name.  The rest may be suburban wine moms who prize "no mean tweets" over things that actually affect their everyday lives.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.
