One more question for the group.  Just been thinking a lot lately. 

 

If Hitler had not attacked England and invaded Russia,  would a big chunk of Europe still be part of Nazi controlled Germany?

Interesting.

Germany probably still would have had to be defeated.

And they declared war on the U.S., so there was no choice except to defeat them.

My impression is that Germany did not expect the war to continue after France fell.

 

Where would German occupied Europe have got oil?

This is an interesting question.  Much like Russia/Putin, Germany/Hitler made a lot of strategic mistakes back in WWII.  I know it was a different time back then, but I suspect if Germany had focused only on Russia, the rest of Europe may have actually backed them, and alternatively, if Germany had not invaded Russia, who knows what Western Europe would look like today.  I think you might have the basis for a television series with your question.

His attack on the UK was not needed to seal his fate. His invasion of Poland sealed his fate.   France and the UK just couldn’t abide that and nor could the USA (even without Pearl Harbor, FDR finds a way into the European theatre). 
 

Had he not violated the terms his agreement with Chamberlain, we would indeed be dealing with a larger Germany that was Nazi controlled.

Well Germany was basically bankrupt by 1940 so relied on plunder to keep going.The economics drove the military
