This link doesn't work for me.it opens something to do with abortion 😂

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I copied and pasted and it opened up to the correct page

It opened now. I don't know how I ended up at an abortion site.

Regardless, how did the guy get a GC via employer after entering and staying in the country illegally?

It doesn't say how he was able to get a work visa, but he never did get the GC as that is when they found out he checked the USC box.

The story is a bit thin on the ground.

Checked another article and I'm not sure if he indicated he was a USC when he renewed his license while adjusting status or he received the initial license by stating he was a USC.

This VOA article seems to claim he only checked the box after he filed for adjustment.

"According to filings in the case, Patel said he checked the box by mistake in his license renewal application."

CNN states he entered in 1992. And renewed the license in 2008 while adjustment was pending. I'd be interested if anyone knows if USCIS allowed people to adjust via work around that time even if they were out of status.

Pankajkumar Patel and his wife Jyotsnaben entered the United States illegally in the 1990s. In 2007, Patel applied to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (a component of the Department of Homeland Se- curity (DHS)) for adjustment of status under §1255(i). See 8 CFR §245.2(a)(1) (giving USCIS authority over applica- tions for adjustment of status made outside of removal pro- ceedings). If granted, this adjustment would have excused Patel’s illegal entry and made him a lawful permanent res- ident. (Patel’s wife, the other petitioner in this case, applied for derivative adjustment of status based on Patel’s appli- cation.) While his request to USCIS was pending, Patel also applied for a Georgia driver’s license. On that applica- tion, he checked a box falsely stating that he was a United States citizen.
USCIS denied Patel’s application for adjustment of sta- tus because of that misrepresentation. One of the eligibility requirements for adjustment is that the noncitizen be stat- utorily admissible for permanent residence. 8 U. S. C. §1255(i)(2)(A).
