Hey all,

I filed I-130 for wife. Im a US citizen. My wife lives in India and her passport is getting expired on January 2024.
I have given her current passport details on I-130 form.

I was wondering should we renew her passport now?

If we renew the passport:

  • the new passport will have different number than previous however it mentions old passport number which would be what we put in I-130
  • If we renew the passport, do we need to let USCIS know about it?

If we don't renew the passport now

  • When interview times come close to June 2023, the expiry date would be too close.
  • Can they ask us to renew the passport first and then schedule interview? In doing so it may take more time and delay her coming here.

Thanks in advance :)

Hello brother! I filed for my husband in Pakistan. His passport was expired at the time. I filed it with his expired passport number. He is getting it renewed now. I don't plan on uploading his renewed passport. I don't think it will cause any problems. If I remember correctly, the passport question was optional when filing i-130.

Also, at the time of the interview you are supposed to have a passport with at least six months left. So if the passport is going to expire, it's better to renew it now. They will ask you to renew it later.

Lately, everyday, I'm hoping for 2 emails:

1) obviously, the NVC welcome letter,

2) a notification from VJ that you posted about your I-130 approval.

At this point, I'll be more excited to hear about news on your case.  5 days, 10 days, whatever--is nothing compared to the USCIS wait.  It sucks.  So I'm definitely rooting for you!

You’re so sweet, thank you so much for lifting my spirits each and every time I’ve lost hope.  I miss our techy talks about how we’re going to beat this system and just so you know, I have a big red “Visa Journey Partay” marked on my calendar on March 1st because you said I’d get approved right before then.  I’m holding you to that hahaha 😝

Keep us posted on the NVC part….you are going to be our guide for the next part of this quagmire.  Have a great weekend!!

The victor does not fight.  The victor has already won.

It doesn't matter why you're on the battlefield....take out your weapons and start fighting.  Everything has a beginning and an end.  If you choose to fight, you choose to win.

There will be cake and ice cream for everyone....and wine.....there will be wine!!  🍷

I believe it matters very much.  Battles are won within...

Fees processed and submitting documents/completing DS260.

I cannot stress to you enough to save your work every 5 minutes on the NVC site while completing the DS260. The site crashes every 10 minutes and will remove your work.

I am going on 2 hours to complete the form with about a half dozen crashes….

Good info.  I also experienced the website crashing while trying to pay.  After going for a walk, I tried again and it went through.  I am eager for the payment to be fully processed so we can proceed.
