Do I need to say the same thing about those other media pundits? It is their job to thrive off of these tragedies and much more. The people that provide them the attention, funds, and clicks fuels this. It is why political hacks shill for money off of every tragedy, write books, and tweet insane ridiculously long threads. Carlson has always done what he's always done, because he knows it works. He doesn't actually have to believe half of the things he may say, just so long as people keep tuning in. I have always not much cared for Joy Reid, and she's certainly not influential on Carlsons sphere. Maddow has done decent pieces over the years, but her time is fast fading - and she's found new ways to stay relevant. Carlson has always been desperate for relevance, any way he can. He often tries to posit that we are somehow more divided, or that there is a perception that we are a more divided nation than ever. Goodness, I honestly think some people could stand to sit in history class more often. I only think that we have become more ignorant and less empathetic. Then again we once had brutal slavery, no civil rights or bodily autonomy, police beat the peaceful, fought a civil war, duels were had, political parties collapsed, Presidents were assassinated, political rivals would often post the most unthinkable in papers, and senators were once physically assaulted by other representatives. We have always been divided and people have always used things as excuses for their crimes - what's new? There were always ideologies challenging 'status quos' or even plain ignorance. We are a better nation for it.

And I believe that is exactly what I said early on in this thread and maintain the fact that this was a tragedy.  Who knows what exactly triggered this guy to do what he did, who cares, he did it and belongs in an execution chamber.  I do disagree that we have become more ignorant, there are plenty of sources out there biases or not, but I agree we have become less empathetic which in my opinion comes from the political divide.  When one side's go to is labeling someone that maybe slips up and doesn't use the correct pronoun, or makes a personal choice in their medical care, there is no empathy and no forgiveness.  As I said earlier, all this rhetoric creates division and creates enemies which is the wrong thing going forward and will lead to the extremists from both sides to come out into the light such as what happened this past weekend.

Well it's not just Tucker Carlson, Carlson disclaims any call  to violence and we cannot prove he ever watched the show.  It is a developing culture that is reflected by many political and media figures.

2018?  So you think this person was watching Tucker Carlson when he was 14?  Everyone that exclaims a political view that some extremist also shares when said extremist commits a despicable act disclaims said act.  Nothing is new, but it is interesting to watch the political narrative that is taking shape over this latest example.

I find both statements repugnant,  Carlson is just smart enough to not explicitly call out specific demographics as the repelacers by name.

Here's a quote from an article I read recently that was actually about the protests at the homes of supreme court justices,

This shooting, as well as others such as the 2017 GOP softball shooting, seems to represent this idea at its worst.  I'm really not too sure what that says about our society but we are really not in a good place right now.

The Diversity thing has always struck me as odd from a historical perspective as I have a hard time thinking of any society where that has been the norm.

 

Anyway let’s say that was a trait that leads to success And you want to support it and promote it well Biden etc have a very odd way of going about it

I think you are underestimating how many kids grow up in a house where Fox News is playing ad nauseum. I'm not here to debate the potential effects of this, just pointing out that it is pretty common. Existing in an echo chamber is simply not a good thing, regardless of political leanings, and unfortunately many children are raised in one. I was one of those kids, but I grew up during a time that was less divisive. For example, I was about 14 when 9/11 happened so there was a surge of nationalism and pride. It was a tragedy but it also brought Americans together for a time. Now, Americans see other Americans as the enemy...it's just sad. 

 

On another note, 4chan has been linked to so much BS at this point. What a cesspool.

I listen to NPR on at the moment and watch CNN and agree if those are you main sources you can get a very distorted view, sadly very hard to find objective sources.

Yeah, anyone that focuses on following basically just one source for news, or even a few sources that are skewed/biased, is going to have a distorted view of the world.

 

Now, most of those people are also not going to go commit a hate crime and/or murder a bunch of people. But it contributes to the overall issue, and the worst corners of the internet purposely add fuel to the fire.
