uhm.....I have to get chicken pox on friday because they didn't have it available in Italy when I did my vaccination for my K3 Visa :(

Our civil surgeon asked Aidan if he has had chickenpox, he said yes and she marked it off. No varicella vaccine needed. If you've had chickenpox before, perhaps tell them that and maybe they won't make you get the shot?

As for everyone talking about Aidan and the mumps vaccine...

He has had two measles vaccines. He has only had one mumps vaccine. The civil surgeon said he needed another mumps vaccine and is letting us fax the mumps info so she can send us our I-693A in the mail. We've already paid her the $50.

I called my GP and asked him if this was correct...if Aidan needs another mumps vaccine (not measles) in order to live in the US and he said yes.

So Aidan's getting the MMR shot (they don't have just a mumps vaccine) tomorrow afternoon, and that's that. This sucks. :(

That really is weird.....I guess it's another case of "everybody getting different answers".

In Germany, you now have to have ALL your vaccinations completed in order to be able to get the K-1/K3 visa and go to the US, and I had only one mumps shot, and passed without problems.

Then I went and had the I-693A filled out over here: Again, no problems with just the one mumps shot.

And then you, on the other hand, are told that a second shot is necessary....that doesn't seem fair.

Oh, well.....I guess there's not much that he can do than getting the second shot :(

Hopefully all will go quickly for you after that.

Good luck,

CW

PS: At least he didn't have to get the varicella shot as well....I know some people who also had had chicken pox as a child but had to get the shot anyway :(

I had all my shots done here in the states I had.... 1 MMR 1 Chickenpox 1 Tetnus 1 Diptheria and a Polio drop in my mouth...

No follow up shots reqired....

Another candidat with the "One-mumps-shot"-information :)

Maybe we should start a poll, just to see how many were told they needed a second one....? :D

My husband said that he would like to write something, such a complaint, about this entire ordeal, e.g. about all the misinformation etc. I did ask him to wait at least until I had my greencard in hand, though

It isn't fair! Lots of people only had one mumps shot...I wish I would have researched some more civil surgeons!

Oh well, you're right. At least he didn't have to have another varicella. But all this still sucks. :(

I already met all medical requirements (shots.. ect) to obtain a K-1 Visa back home.. now that I’m in the US we have to pay.. depending on the doctor.. anywhere from $50.00 up to $595.00 in order to have the SAME information transferred to yet another government form.. I-693A.. and on top of that we’re told I don’t have all my shots? Why the #uck are we all paying twice for the SAME thing? First at home when I paid for a medical & the associated travel costs to attend the medical… now that I’m here I have to do part of it over again?

Isn’t the information from the medical back home enough, why do they need to put that SAME information on yet another stupid form?... isn’t my medical information in the big brown envelope I carried over with me? Does the government here not already know everything that’s going on the I-693A?

This is an insane, pointless part of the process.. I’ve had shots for MR, MMR, Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria and been sick with the measles and I do not I need another mumps shot, I do not want another stupid shot.. good god.. I really do understand now why so many people just decide to say “f##k it all” and come illegally.. it costs a lot less money, time and frustration! :hehe:

But if I want to live in the US I have to have that shot or risk being refused my adjustment and sent home all because of a mumps shot (I got no real choice in the matter)? no wonder it takes months, years in order to obtain a visa just to come here.. then months, years more just to get a green card!

Sujeet had to get a 2nd MMR shot after he was here. We called a local civil surgeon ahead of time and they told us what he'd have to have done in order for them to fill out the vaccination supplement(the form you are talking about).

It cost him $25 for the shot at a local dr's office(insurance co-pay) and then it cost $25 to get the vaccination supp filled out by the civil surgeon.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

We have what are called MMR shots here in the US - Measles, Mumps and Rubella all in one. I know that when I was like between 18 or 20 it came out that the MMR shot certain age groups had as children weren't as effective as they'd like or something like that, and we'd all have to go for a 2nd MMR. I had to have it too. If you look up MMR on the CDC website, you may be able to find the story behind this, and it may be the reason you're required to have 2? Not sure but thought this might help.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart"

Hi all…

Melissa and myself went and took a nice long trip to Orlando today to get our I-693A (medical supplement) filled out by one of the listed civil surgeons only to discover that.. although I’ve had every shot needed for my K-1 interview (including mumps) I required a second mumps shot for the AOS  ? This is the first time I’ve heard of this being a requirement! Mad as it is.. looks like its another $35.00 for the shot at the Dept of Health or $55.00 from the surgeon!

Just listing this out for anyone like me.. got pumped up on shots back home thinking no more shots where needed!.. :P

 Evidently, you've not heard the saying "better to have two mumps than one"! They probably looked at your avatar and thought you might need another
