Hi all…

Melissa and myself went and took a nice long trip to Orlando today to get our I-693A (medical supplement) filled out by one of the listed civil surgeons only to discover that.. although I’ve had every shot needed for my K-1 interview (including mumps) I required a second mumps shot for the AOS  ? This is the first time I’ve heard of this being a requirement! Mad as it is.. looks like its another $35.00 for the shot at the Dept of Health or $55.00 from the surgeon!

Just listing this out for anyone like me.. got pumped up on shots back home thinking no more shots where needed!.. :P

Well, the only other thing I might suggest is a second civil surgeon. I know you probably already paid money today to the first one though. And having to pay a second one would wash out the same as paying for the 2nd vaccine. Sorry to hear this.

What I REALLY wanted to tell you is ....... DRINK, #######, #######, GIRLS! LOL

That's the first I've heard of it, too. I only had one mumps shot, and the civil surgeon checked my vaccination supplement as "all required vaccinations done".

What I did hear while I was still in Germany was that there were several people who had a problem with their MEASLES shot.....apparently many Germans only had one shot for measles, and the US requires two? They were sent back to their doctors to get a second measles shot before their medical results were sent on to the consulate (these were all K-1 people).

Do you think, your surgeon might have confused those requirements...? It just seems a too big coincidence that there are two vaccinations with a one shot-two shot problem .....

We were told that the second MMR shot is not mandatory but highly suggested by our health department. There needs to be a space between the first and second shot and after your medical in your home there is usually no time. There is also the suggestion of a second varicella shot.

I know that I didn't have the MMR, but I had all the jabs separately. There was no record of me having a mumps shot (although my mother swears I did) although everything else was documented so they gave me that one and then I was on my way. It bleedin' well hurt, too!

Same thing here, the civil surgeon made me schedule an appointment for a second MMR shot..

Does anyone confirm it has to be done?

I had my I-693A checked as "all requirements have been met" (just last month) with only one mumps shot.....whereas you apparently do need two measles shots....since you said "a second MMR shot", my suspicion is - as I've said before- that the problem is the measles shot, not the mumps.

MMR= Measles, Mumps, Rubella.

And the shots are a series of two.. if you've only had one, you do need the second...

I got the MMR at the Irish medical too, and didn't need anything further over here, besides the varicella (which only requires 1 shot for the Supplement, but you do need another for your own health). I had those shots also as a child.

My Doctor checked my blood on my last visit for all vaccines (as I'm expecting) and said that I was well vaccinated :) so in a way, I'm glad that I had to go through the vaccination procedure!

Nope, that is not correct, in my opinion.

How often do I have to write it: I only had one Mumps shot in my entire life and it was accepted. My I 693A stated "All requirements met". So you cannot say that two mumps shots are needed.

The reason they want you to get another "MMR" shot is the measles part....not the mumps!

Of course, to be practical, the easiest way to fulfil the requirement for the second measles shot would be to get another MMR shot, thus receiving a second mumps shot as well. :D

Effective mumps shots now a days are given in 3's when people are babies.
That might be, but we're not talking about "effective" shots, just about "required" ones, aren't we?
