Hi everyone,

despite having an attorney, with whom I have gotten a FE request from the NVC, I hope your past experience can help me out.

My mother lives outside the U.S. (Germany) and would like to immigrate (back) to the U.S. with me and my dad. However, presently, she does not have an income (because they're living off my dad's pension). Since she's the sponsor, she'd like to use her savings (250k$) as assets. When we first submitted the documents to the NVC, the attorney had not uploaded proof of balance of my mom's accounts (hence, the FE request).

Here are my questions, none of which the attorney could answer in the first place:

- Do we need to translate the documents from German to English? Since my case is processed at the Consulate in Frankfurt, I know that civil documents can be submitted in either English or German (the latter having been accepted for the police certificate)

- For those of you who have used assets, and in particular cash in the bank, did you only submit a bank statement or more of a history? My attorney believes that solely a statement from this month is fine

- Maybe less important, but when calculating the savings amount in $, did you simply use the current exchange rate without any explanation (which leads to a discrepancy between the proof of balance (in Euro) and the amount of savings in the AoS (in $))?

Unlike the attorney, I suggested adding a household member (my dad) and as such the income from this pension. However, since my dad is also being sponsored by my mom (on a separate AoS), the attorney believes that it is better to use assets only. I'm keen to hear your opinion on this.

I do look forward to hearing from you guys given that the inexperience of the attorney is frustrating.

Many thanks and have a great weekend.

Chris
