Good day all,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm about to file the AOS paperwork for my husband, who came here on K1 visa. I know the instructions for the I485 say to include I693 supplement if medical completed within past year. Ok I get that. However, the doctor refused to give my husband (fiance at the time) a copy of the vaccination record. I know he will need to show that when he goes to the Civil Surgeon here to get the I693 supplemental formed filled out.

My question is, has anyone worked around not having a copy of the vaccination record by: just not including the I693, or by just taking to Civil Surgeon and letting him know all shots are complete. It's a long shot and I feel somewhat silly asking, but I know the difference we'll have to pay without the vaccination is about $300.

Any ideas and/or advice would be most appreciated.

thanks everyone.

LL

The fee increase actually goes into effect on July 30th. So your package will need to be postmarked before the 30th to be under the old fee structure.

The civil surgeons in my area were also ignorant about just transcribing the vaccination information. So, as many others here have done, I contacted Dr. Arnold in Texas - who will transcribe the DS 3025 to the I 693 A for $10. I sent my stuff to him Wednesday - haven't heard back yet but its too soon I'm sure. Here's his info:

Dr. L.E. Arnold

4534 Westgate Boulevard, Suite 106

Austin, TX 78745

Tel: (512)444-3131

Fax: (512)447-4699

Edited to say - If I for some reason don't hear back from Dr. Arnold before the 27th (the date I plan to mail out our AOS), I'm going to just include the DS 3025 and if I get an RFE for the I 693A, so be it.

Anything is possible; you can win the lottery tomorrow too. However, the chances of you getting around this is very remote. You may be able to find an unscrupulous CS who isn't doing his or her job diligently and who may accept bribes to fake a I-693a supplemental, but honest and competent CSs should not just be taking your word. They either need evidence that immunization shots were given previously or they need to test to see if your husband needs any of the vaccinations.

You can try sending in the I-485 without the I-693a, but most likely you'll get an RFE to submit one. Or you may be asked at the AOS interview to show your I-693a.

The instructions with I-485 say you "MAY" include the vaccination supplememt with the AOS application.

Send it in with out and you may get an RFE for it or be requested to bring it to the AOS interview.

Also I know it makes no sense to increase the fee 2 days before the end of the month, but the fee increases July 30 NOT the 31st.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

File it without it and see what happens. All I did last year, about this time, was send in a copy of Andre's vaccination record with the AOS. We didn't have anything else on the medical. Ours went through with no problems.

If they RFE you, at least you will have filed before the fees go up. And, if they don't RFE you, you will have saved on the cost of visiting a doctor to get something you didn't even need.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Um, a postmark is the dated stamp that the USPS puts on the package when it is processed.

The memo about the fee increase from USCIS says that the new fees will take effect for anything postmarked on the 30th or after. Since the 29th is a Sunday, that means you'd need to take the AOS package to the post office no later than Saturday the 28th to beat the fee increase.

Thank you:-) i guess we can't make it before the 30th...we will be getting wedded on the 28th...that's okay. as long as we will get married.

It may come out the same in the wash anyway. The new AOS fee ($1010) includes work authorization and travel authorization - meaning if you ever needed to renew either document, you wouldn't have to pay another fee.

Whereas those of us in the old fee structure will have to pay another fee for a renewal - and at the newly increased price, too.

Well we got our approval on the greencard. I think because it was transferred, all of our documentation ended up together so USCIS in CA had the medical forms in the sealed envelope taken the day of the interview. That's my guess anyway. I will still recommend that folks remind their SO's to bring copies of vaccination records - better safe than sorry.

Thanks again for your help/advice.

I could see that being the case if the consulate (Dept. of State) routinely returned forms to the USCIS (Dept. of Homeland Security).

In actuality, the medical forms from the overseas medical are in your visa packet that you turn over at the POE. That somehow made it back to the USCIS, but it doesn't seem to in many cases (which is why obtaining the I 693A is a good idea).
