Greetings everyone,

I filed in October, we received our receipt a month later. I still haven’t received an approval it’s now 5 months 6 months in.
we got married in July, and I gave birth last month.

My question is can I file for a tourist visa for my husband to come see the baby and I  while waiting for approval for I-130. (Since we don’t know how long this is going to take).

My PD is 10/27/21 at the Nebraska center.
can someone give me like a outline of what’s next in the process and an approximated timeframe for them ?

and oh, he’s in Ghana.

Hubby and I are thinking if worse comes we’ll meet each other in Mexico.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Thread is moved from the K-3 Process forum to Tourist Visas.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Can someone also help me understand the process

we are waiting the I-130 approval, such as what happens after approval and moving forward  and also  the estimated timeframe for the remaining stages.

thank you

I-130 petition approval takes about a year, sometimes longer depending on the center it is assigned to, and sometimes less than a year.  After petition approval, you receive a notice that the petition has been approved.  The USCIS sends the approved petition to the NVC (National Visa Center) for the next stage of the process.  NVC will send information via email instructing you about documents to upload via CEAC,  including the I-864 and DS-260, pay fees, etc.  You can also upload additional evidence that the marriage relationship is bona fide as an additional document at the NVC stage.  NVC reviews the documents and when everything looks good, they qualify the documents.  This stage from USCIS approval of the petition to NVC documentarily qualified (DQ) takes between 2 and 4 months.  After DQ, NVC waits for an interview slot to open up at the US consulate/embassy abroad and then sends the file to the embassy/consulate for the visa interview, and you are notified of the interview date/time with instructions on documents to bring to the interview.  The wait time for scheduling the interview depends on the country and the interview backlog there.  Plan on around 4-6 months.  The whole process can take 2 years or more.  Add more time if there are any RFEs, problems with any documents, red flags, unusual circumstances, or if extended AP (administrative processing) is needed.  Good luck!

Mexican visas are not guaranteed for Ghanaians.

Yes you can. His chances are slim and none though. Personally I wouldn’t waste $160.

Current waiting time for a tourist visa appointment in Accra is 983 days.

That’s correct however previously booked up interview dates continually open up when other applicants reschedule.

Congratulations on marriage and the new baby!

I wonder how they handle that as far as determining who gets the newly opened slot.

People will log on to the system and search for another appointment.

It is first come, first serve.

Although I believe you can only change your interview date twice.

Applicants are only allowed to reschedule twice (not including the initial appointment) without penalty. If the second rescheduling attempt is canceled, an applicant will only be allowed to reschedule a new date after a waiting period of 90 days. (Apply for visa in the Philippines
