Dunno what caused your baby to reject your milk, considering (s)he came from your body?  Perhaps a drug interaction issue?

My reading is that Yuna was that baby.  She can confirm or clarify.

Yes. That is correct. Milk allergy in babies is considered rare but does happen, instead of the more common simple diagnosis of 'intolerance' but both problems are increasing these days. I had the same problem being breastfed and with many types of formula. When I reached the 'failure to thrive' diagnosis as a consequence of not having adequate nourishment and angioedema, the decision was to put me specialized RX formula. I do not consume milk and heavily limit any exposure to dairy. I really feel for parents that have babies with this issue during such difficulties.

Boobs don't produce milk like magic. For a variety of reasons it's sometimes not possible.

Or you could be like me, the baby that swelled up, turned red, screamed in pain, and projectile vomited everywhere when exposed to milk. And with more and more babies having this issue, a wide variety of formula options helps.

I don't really remember it, but I guess I was a milk puker too.  Parents told me they had to give me soy milk.

I did manage to get over it and I'm a regular milk drinker even now.  I do seem, however, to be developing some mild lactose intolerance that is only noticed when I consume ice cream.

You really said black and wet nurse in the same paragraph.  Blatant racism. Reported

Wet nurses are not the solution. How could they be the solution? How could we find enough women who are lactating sufficiently to feed not only their own infants but also the millions of babies affected? This isn't an 18th century manor house, with wet nurses in the nursery to tend to the feeding needs of Little Lord So-and-So.

It is facile to assume that every woman who isn't breastfeeding could if she wanted. It just doesn't work that way.

Racism is another significant barrier to accessing breastfeeding support.

For generations under slavery, Black American mothers who had recently given birth were frequently forced to serve as wet nurses for their oppressors’ families, which meant their own children often went hungry. The legacy of that horrifying history is still present in Black communities today.

“We have long had an aversion to nursing because of wet nursing during slavery,” said Crystal Saiyge, a parent and DEI consultant in Hyattsville, Maryland. “Even though slavery itself ended, oppression never did, and the things that racism created in this country are still ongoing,” said Sahira Long, a pediatrician and medical director of the Children’s National East of the River Lactation Support Center in Washington, DC.

Ana Rodney, who runs MOMCares, a Baltimore organization that provides baby supplies and support to new mothers in the city’s Black community, said the formula shortage has hit many families hard. Black women don’t get breastfeeding encouragement or support from the white medical community, Rodney said.

Well this puts a lot of faith in our wonderfully efficient federal bureaucracy.  I didn't think physical mailrooms still existed.

FDA says senior officials didn’t receive infant formula whistleblower report due to 'mailroom issues'

The FDA’s top official will acknowledge a string of failures that contributed to the current infant formula shortages when he faces lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

In their prepared testimony released Tuesday evening, FDA Commissioner Robert Califf and several senior officials for the first time lay out a timeline of the agency’s response to reports last fall that infants had been hospitalized after consuming formula made at an Abbott Nutrition plant in Sturgis, Mich. And they say a whistleblower report alleging food safety problems at the plant, which was mailed in October, did not reach the FDA’s highest rungs until mid-February, despite being sent directly to then-acting Commissioner Janet Woodcock and others.

Hmm, this has left the news mostly, but apparently is still there.

Despite moves to increase supply, families are still feeling the pain of the baby formula shortage

One estimate, from the market research company Datasembly, found that stock rates have not improved. During the last week of May, 74% of formula products were out of stock at some point. In nine states, including many in the South, more than 90% of formula products weren’t always available, which means families are still on the hunt.
