Hello Everyone,

I am moving to New York as a new immigrant. I have a new car bough on 2020 that I want to take along with me, please let me know what kind of documents should I carry with me. Also I have furniture and other stuffs that I want to take, what are the possible ways to take it there? If I rent a Uhaul and ask someone to drive with me(since I am driving my car), is this possible? Can there be any problem for the other person if he is carrying my goods? please advice

pulll up the site for car importation

i know it has to satisfy US emssion standards

as for furniture we took a load into Canada when steph moved up to Btantford

no one at border even checked it but i would prepare the load so the CBP can easily look thru it to check inside without unloading it

anyone with Canadian passport can  drive it thru

make sure all paperwork for Uhaul and his towing vehicle is in his name / NY is sticky when it comes to insurance and tiltles and registeration

Is the car owned outright or financed?  If it's financed, you need permission from the lender to permanently import it into the USA.

You need a letter from the manufacturer stating it meets US requirements for import.  You need form HS-7 and an EPA form.  You will need your bill of sale.

If someone is driving a UHaul for you, you will have to just explain that to customs when you activate your visa and import your vehicle.  Your friend will enter as a visitor.  You'll need the list of contents in the UHaul and the rental paperwork from UHaul.

Hi, My car is Financed and i talked to the lender for the letter, but they said they wont issue anything unless i pay off the balance. at this moment i dont have enough money to pay it off. what could be the possible solution for this? i have contacted CBP and they told me the following "• Proof of ownership — An original Certificate of Title or a certified copy of the original
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Form 3520-1 Declaration Form — Importation of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Engines Subject to Federal Air Pollution Standards, which can be downloaded at https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehicles-and-engines/epa-standard-form-3520-1-declaration-form-importation-motor-vehicles.
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Form HS-7 Declaration Form — Importation of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Equipment Subject to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety, Bumper and Theft Prevention Standards, which can be downloaded at https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/hs7_r.v.7.pdf."

please advice

Sell it and buy something cheaper outright. Save more. Sell other possessions and pay it off .

You won't be able to import it.  The finance company has basically said they aren't willing to allow you to export it until they have their money.  You don't have a transferrable registration or a title (paperwork saying you own it outright), so you won't be able to register it in NY.

As @Lil bear said, sell it and buy something stateside or find the cash to pay it off.

If there's no rule to return it to Ontario, perhaps run it through the dishwasher and then mount it on your wall at home.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
