My stepgrandparent’s home in NJ (essentially suburban NYC) cost around $12k a month, a while back now. I’m sure it wasn’t the cheapest, but not the most expensive either.  You’re looking at sinking somewhere  north of half a million dollars over the 5ish years you’re going to wait to get licensed, into routine expenses? What happens if there is a medical emergency and you have a large out of pocket to pay? And support yourself at the same time with rent, living expenses etc? Honestly, if that’s the budget, you should already have assets way bigger than that - enough to use for the i864 under the assets clause  - and not be worried about public charge at all.

Thank you so much for all the help. So sorry for being such a pest with all these questions I’m bombarding you with. If I were to sell everything, I would have circa 1,2-1,5 million. This does not include the 150 000 dollars on his own bank account. Nevertheless, by the time of the interview, I would have already started burning it on his gargantuan medical expenses and will have to continue to deplete my savings not only on those medical expenses but also my personal living expenses, education for licensing purposes and so on once I come to the US. So as you can tell, I could drain it up relatively quickly. Wouldn’t the CO exercise a similar school of thought while making his decision? It is just a hunch of mine that he would still deem such assets insufficient given how, for lack of a better word, burdensome my father would be financially speaking. On top of that, I also suppose that all the difficulties with my licensing could undermine my employment prospects in the eyes of the officer. Not even including the unfavourable odds when it comes to finding a willing joint sponsor. Thanks in advance.

If granted an immigration visa, you can start working the day you arrive in the US .. just not in a job which has US licensing / registration requirements

I’ve heard that nursing homes are rather expensive in NYC

Can you afford $10k/month?   Starting rate.
