You're preaching to the choir 😉

Just chatting in this thread as some posters think some women like to use an abortion as their only birth control/ family planning... 😐

When the truth is a lot more complicated.

Abortion = women's health care.

The reasons for ending a pregnancy are numerous. And the reasons for ending a pregnancy should be discussed with a doctor. Not dictated by law.

So are you advocating abortion on demand up until birth?

Yes. The decision should be between a woman and her doctor.

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/30/718546468/opponents-fight-efforts-to-protect-late-term-abortion-rights

https://www.kff.org/womens-health-policy/fact-sheet/abortions-later-in-pregnancy/

Just as people posit abortions won't decrease with new restrictions in place.

I posit abortions won't increase with no restrictions.

Women aren't going to run out to the nearest clinic or hospital to secure their termination of pregnancy at 31-35 weeks just because they can.

If the SCOTUS overturns the case:

  1.  It throws everything back to the individual states.

  2.  Some states will forbid it, and some will permit it.

  3.  If one's own state forbids it, buy a bus ticket to a neighboring state that permits it.

  4.  Who knows -- someplace like California might even pay to have clients come in.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

As much as I love being able to access the pill over the counter in Korea... it really did mess up my biology so I 100% agree with this sentiment.

I needed to go to a doctor to find the correct birth control without finding out the pill I was on totally messed up my cycle for several months...

Birth control is serious business, and I needed to cycle through several types before I found the one that worked for me and when I spoke to a doctor the process was super easier.. as opposed to trying to figure out alone how the new pill was different to the pill I took before.

I tried two IUDs and of course the second was better... but needed a doctor for them.

The pill is not always the answer.

ETA: Listen to the women, men. You might think we are silly when it comes to birth control but the majority of women are cycling through several options and sometimes fall pregnant even though they tried to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

The combination pill really messed with my body when I was a teenager. I was taking it first for acne, and then when I got a serious boyfriend my parents doubled down on the importance of birth control. I pretty much had a pill every morning with breakfast and didn't think anything of it. But I'm a migraine sufferer, and even though that wasn't supposed to get worse with this particular pill, it eventually did. I tried another combo pill, and if anything I felt worse, so I swore off all hormonal methods for a while. (Even better, I swore off that serious boyfriend for the rest of my life!)

I knew the mini and micro pills were options for me, but I was too freaked out by the experience to try again for a while. But when I was on a year abroad, I had the chance to talk to a sensitive, well-informed medical professional at the university clinic. Basically, in the US I had been treated like a child who needed to be talked down to by doctors, but in the UK I was an adult, and treated thusly. It was some trial and error, but I figured out what works by paying attention to my body, and by being supported by someone who respected me to understand my body since I'm the one inside it.

Even then, it's so easy to mess up. You can have the best of intentions and you miss your daily alarm, or you take it as directed and something goes wrong. Or you're dealing with drama in your life, and you forget because you're distracted with your life imploding. That's what happened to me.

I'm still not a fan of hormones for me, but I am back on a low dose pill. I'm very, very careful now because, well, I'm a hell of a lot older and my life is far more stable. I also don't want to be a mom, and I need to prioritize that in terms of my health. I'm also quite aware that things can go wrong, even when you're trying to make things go right.

I want you to think about what you've said carefully. Put the following into context: If a state bans all abortions for any reason at all, and let's say a person wants to travel to a state that provides an abortion - what happens if also in the law, that state prevents a resident from leaving to obtain an abortion? And that is just in a simple case. This is not even account for situations where needing an abortion is an emergency or requiring a D&C. Many activists and pastors have said that stopping an abortion in their states is not enough, and they will not be satisfied with that and want to go beyond their borders.

They are going to build a wall? Not sure how that would work. I have seen weird stuff from both ends of the spectrum, but that is just it.

I read that RBG was against this as well. Interesting to see how that plays out.

Well the articles are out there, in news focused websites and religious based sites that describe the idea as not only completely acceptable but they believe it is able to be achieved. It's only "weird" until someone does it. And there are plenty of potential laws on the table that do just that.

Thinking something similar to what happens in Korea might happen.

Are you aware if you obtain an abortion and someone finds out they can report you and the doctor?

Korea also has laws in effect where citizens are prosecuted for crimes committed outside Korea.

If someone suggests you smoked an illegal substance while visiting another country. They can test you when you return to Korea.

If drugs are found in your system. This equals possession. You go to jail.

Some extreme "pro life" people are also suggesting IUDs should be illegal.

No access to birth control seems extremely restrictive.

Anti-abortion advocates have argued incorrectly that certain birth control methods, such as Plan B and certain intrauterine devices (IUDs), work as abortifacients because they may prevent the implantation of fertilized eggs. But there is no pregnancy without implantation, so these medications cannot terminate pregnancies.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/may/03/roe-v-wade-birth-control

Imagine going for a medical in your home state. Doctor discovers you take birth control/ have an IUD and feels obligated to report you...

Seems we are starting to get into the extreme worst case scenario now.  Not sure if a US state could effect the same kinds of things the ROK may and still be within the Constitution.
