My father in law got his visa today. We have him booked June 1  for travel.  Who knows what changes will happen between now and then but looking for the easiest way for him to get a PCR test within 24 hours of his flight departure to the US.

is there any rapid results testing available at the airport?  He’s flying JAL to HND-JFK-CVG.

flight departs at 11:25pm

He’s in Cavite and wherever he tested last for his medical before going to SLEC in January it took 30 hours to get his results so that place is out.

The test does not have to be a PCR test, and it does not have to be taken within 24 hours from flight departure.  It needs to be taken within 1 day from departure.  So a test taken at 1201am on Monday will qualify for a flight that departs to the US at 1159pm Tuesday.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

Thanks. Good to know!

I have that fun sooner than him, returning from Abu Dhabi to Cairo on the 18th then Cairo back to US on the 20th. Short time to find a test in Cairo 😀

The below provides some information on where to test in Egypt.  This is from the US Embassy website for Egypt.

https://eg.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/covid-19-information/#:~:text=All passengers travelling to Egypt,before their flight departure time.

COVID-19 Testing

  • Are PCR and/or antigen tests available for U.S. citizens in Egypt? Yes, at numerous private testing centers, as well as the Central Public Health Lab.
  • If so, are test results reliably available within one calendar day? Yes, at extra cost.  Most COVID-19 test providers offer 48-hour turnaround in Egypt, but faster service is possible at extra cost.
  • The Government of Egypt  provides COVID-19 tests at a cost of 1,680 Egyptian Pounds for foreigners and 1,260 Egyptian pounds for Egyptians.
  • Please visit this list (in Arabic) of public hospitals in Egypt which offer COVID-19 tests. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo maintains a list of medical providers that U.S. citizens in Egypt have used in the past.  Individuals should contact the medical providers directly to determine if they offer COVID-19 testing.
  • The U.S. Embassy is also aware of the following private companies which offer PCR tests:
    • Prime Speed Medical (1,500 Egyptian pounds, results within 24 hours);
    • VFS Global Sites (2,000 Egyptian pounds, results within 36 hours)
    • Al Mokhtabar Labs (PCR swab tests are offered at a cost of 3,000 Egyptian pounds per test and results are available within 24 hours);
    • Ain-Shams University Labs (3,000 Egyptian pounds for foreigners and 1,500 Egyptian pounds for Egyptians).
  • The U.S. Embassy does not endorse or recommend any provider.  Payment for COVID-19 testing is the responsibility of the individual and is not covered by the Government of Egypt.
  • Delivery of test results varies by provider. Some are able to email results within 24 hours.
  • The Government of Egypt established the following COVID-19 dedicated hotlines: 105– Ministry of Health Hotline (Press 1 for COVID-19 information; Arabic proficiency recommended); 15335 - Press 1 for Arabic. Press 2 for English.

Good to know about the one day vs 24 hours.
