Can I request a second medical before the visa is issued to get a later expiry date?

Following multiple setbacks, my medical is set to expire in August.  The Montreal Consulate just requested ANOTHER document which they could have requested at the interview.  The window for the actual move to USA is looking pretty tight right now.  The process seems to be engineered for foreign spouses sitting overseas twiddling their thumbs, waiting for the golden doors to swing open so they can immediately flock into the USA.  Some of us are working people and have complex affairs to settle once we finally get the visa.  What is the best way to postpone the process to give us some more breathing space?  I imagine I can request another medical?  They have my passport, so would I need to request that back? Also, I think someone posted that the consular officer needs to approve another medical.  Can someone advise on a suitable course of action?

I realize I can return to Canada for a time after officially "immigrating." However, I am looking for a better option.  Among other things, as long as I am on Canadian soil, I want the whole family covered by provincial health care.  I would rather postpone the visa expiry, if possible.

Nope can't request another medical until they say so and they won't say anything until it is expired. They will just give you the generic answer that your medical is good until so and so date.

What you can do but it is really playing with fire is ask them to not issue your visa until a certain date. But you are at their mercy on when they will actually request the medical wait for the results and then wait for them to actually review it all over again. Which is basically starting the AP all over again.

I wouldn't risk it.  Look at the people stuck in 5535 limbo...it may backfire into that type of situation where you never get your passport back.

Are you the only one who needs the visa?  If the family are dual, why can't your partner and children stay in Canada and tie up loose ends?  Yes, it's a pain, but it can be done.
