Is there a number I can call to follow up on status of N-400 application?

Hi all!

I would like to know if there is a specific contact number I can call to follow up on status of my

naturalization application. Due to a pending trip, I would like to talk to an actual officer who can check my

application and get an accurate estimate of when to expect the interview.

I guess another important question is: is this possible? Would I be able to get an accurate estimate if I call?

I applied for naturalization in August 2021 and my USCIS Field Office is in Charlotte.

Thank you in advance!

you can always try, but from what people said in this site, when u called uscis, almost no agent can give u exact estimation. call the usual uscis number and say " info pass" to speak with live agent.  i believe if its not life or death situation, i will make sure i will come to the interview no matter what. so many story people try to change their appointment and they have to wait for a long time / in a limbo

Thank you! So it's safe to assume that the agents can't tell exactly when the interview will take place...For some reason, the estimated time for decison on my case keeps changing in my USCIS online account (eg from 1 month to 5 months). Hard to tell when to expect the interview!!! Makes traveling difficult to plan :(

yes. there's no way the agent can give answer that you want. the n-400 estimated time only estimation. i just filed n-400 for my friend in february 2022 jacksonville FL. it said 12-16 months. she got interview notice date in 56 days ! my suggestion, any trip you plan, make sure it's all refundable. its not worth it to change the interview date

My 2 cents: call first thing in the morning (8:00a EST) so you won't have to be on hold, get to the live agent by saying info pass or tech support or whatever way works now. You might get lucky and get an agent who will look into your case and will try to give you as much information as possible.

E.g. when my N400 was pending (and online status only showed 'Case was Received;), and my extension letter expiring in less than a month (but more than 2 weeks), a very friendly agent actually told me that my real status is 'Biometrics have been reused - case ready to be scheduled for interview' and even gave me an approximate timeline for when my interview will be scheduled (she was right!). She also submitted a request for info-pass appointment to get an I-551 stamp even though she wasn't supposed to do it that early.

Thank you Yana, great idea! Curious though: what do you mean by "extension letter"?

I am also wondering if I can call even if my case is still within the "normal processing time".

Extension letter that you receive after filing I-751 for your conditions to be removed.

I mean calling them doesn’t cost anything so why not try. Worst that can happen - you won’t learn anything new :)
