I-751 Extension Letter processing time and international travel

Conditional GC expires in September 2022

International travel planned for November 2022.

We know that the GC renewal takes time, and that we receive an extension letter that serves as a temporary GC for a year while processing.  How are the processing times nowadays for this letter?  Should we reschedule our trip?

Some relatives mentioned infopass appointments for passport stamps, or a special sticker that USCIS puts on a GC - are these still options if we do not receive the letter in time (or if the process takes more than a year after we receive the letter)?

Thanks!!!

Just to be clear -- you did not apply for GC renewal with I-90, along with your I-751 Removal of Conditions, right?  Because there is no GC renewal for conditional LPR.

File the I-751 package a few days after the 90 day window opens prior to expiration date on the Green Card.  Once the I-751 is accepted, you will receive an extension letter which extends the expiration date on the card for 2 years.  You can use that extension letter along with the expired green card to re-enter the US.  I think you will have the extension letter within a few weeks after filing the I-751.  Good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes.  My bad.  I meant the process to actually remove conditions on the conditional GC.  That process takes some time

that's the thing,  I have heard of some cases where the letter takes months, so I am wondering what people have recently experienced

A perusal of https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/86-removing-conditions-on-residency-general-discussion/ will show that 2 year extensions are being returned from I-751 in 1-2 weeks typically.

No need to reschedule your travel

And no need to wait  after your window opens to file I-751.  Mail it (usps priority mail) at exactly 90 days before the gc expires if you are ready.  A few days wait buys you nothing.

Can't argue with that.  The problem arises when people mail it PRIOR to the 90 day window opening......in hopes of it arriving at USCIS on day 90.

We got it pretty quickly when applying in 2021. We've used it several times for travel already without any issues. If you are concerned, file pretty close to when your window opens (NOT BEFOREHAND), and that would give you about 5 months until you are ready to travel. That will be more than plenty of time.

As others have already mentioned, you will receive the receipt notice (which will also include the extension letter) not long after you file. I received mine within a week I think, and I have traveled internationally 3 times without any issues.

Same we received ours within 10 days last September. As the others have said you should be fine. My wife just got back from visiting home and had no issues using the letter.

Finally done...
