Hi everyone, my fiancé and I are considering getting married and applying for DCF afterwards. We’ve been living and working in Germany but he got a job offer from another company in the US.

We’ve been reading a lot about what may be considered “exceptional circumstance” but wanted to see whether any of you have had similar experiences. Do you think the Frankfurt consulate would accept his new job as one?

Also, for people who have filed the I-130 in Frankfurt, how long did it take you to hear back from them whether this is indeed considered exceptional circumstance? I also just received a job offer but it is in Germany, so we want to figure out whether DCF would work at all or if I should take the job in Germany and apply for the CR-1 the regular way.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Some have succeeded under a job offer and requirement to travel .  You won't know until you ask the consulate.  If that fails, the US spouse can relocate to the US alone, and establish domicile.  Most of us here have had to be separated for a while during the process.  Good luck.

Step 1:  Marry.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

DCF via Frankfurt seems to be quite common.

And job offers are considered an exceptional circumstance.

You can read through the last two threads to see timelines and what others have done:

Your USC spouse might have to move before the process is complete (that is okay and allowed).

But, make sure you request DCF before they move back to the US.
