I would never consider having gun a honor and be honored by this right. OMG! What we are talking about here? Its like left is right and black is white. Whatever...

I am seem only one here who thinks different, wrong by most opinion. I tried to apply for some morality and sanity, but its so very different here.

America - adapt or die, ok, I shut up.

Many Americas are very proud of their rights and wouldn't give them up for ANYTHING. What did you expect, everyone to agree with you? I like the fact that if I want to own a gun, I can. I have the right to protect my family and my property if it comes down to it and I don't think the government should be able to stop me. There is like a 10 day waiting period on buying guns, and there are background checks and everything else. What do you want the government to do, say "I'm sorry, you legally cannot own a gun." That way if someone who wants to kills you illegally gets ahold of one and threatens your family you're up ####### creek.

It is also your right not to own a gun. But don't try to take them away from everyone because you're scared. People here hold their rights very dear and you're not going to get alot of them backing up the idea of changing them.

I live in the uk and my friend lives on a farm on the otherside of town and he said that anyone can own a Shotgun from the ages of 17 & up as long as they pay the £118 in fees every 5 years. especially now as they have the RIGHT to evoke martins law if the burglar trespasses within there home. (they HAVE to be in the house for this to be legal). but there is still no reason why any1 should have to "protect" there homes with SMG or even rocket propelled grenade launchers as seen on tv.

of course stabbing some1 and claiming self defence works (too well in my town im sorry to say)

Most anti-gunners don't know the first thing about guns and judge them No, I don't judge by Hollywood products about things. My knowledge comes from history and past what happened in Europe, not from movies, where probably standard American knowledge comes about morality.

What happened in Europe, specifically two World Wars and the deaths of tens of millions, was not the result of ordinary law-abiding citizens having guns for self-defense. It was tyrannical governments (who disarmed their citizens, btw), that were responsible.

As for morality, many here (I dare say the vast majority) believe it is immoral to leave honest citizens defenseless against predators.

You don't have to shut up. :) You don't like guns? Don't buy one. Other than seeing police or soldiers you probably will never see a gun in the USA, unless you want to. How many guns have you seen private citizens carrying? Sure in some states you'll see gun racks on guns during hunting season. But if you live in a city you'll probably never see a gun.

Our big cities are more dangerous than many international cities. But that's another thread in the making.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I don't feel safe here. Or maybe its just some sort of shock for me in this society, but I don't feel safe, knowing that people can have guns.

The sentence before yours that I quoted wasn't supposed to be there. In any case, I did read what you said, thank you. You said your knowledge comes from history and what happened in Europe. Since this thread is your polemic against the right of citizens to own guns (except in rare circumstances), I pointed out that what happened in Europe was not the result of law-abiding citizens having the right to own guns.

I personally don't own a gun because I have teenagers and I feel it is better to be safe than sorry. However, that is only my personally decision at this time because I most certainly do support our right to have and bear arms. It is criminals that do harm with guns and not responsible citizens. If the right to have guns was taken away from us, then it would only be the criminally minded that had guns. Just like drugs, they will always find a way to have them. I feel safer knowing that I can legal have a gun if I so choose.

Lets now say things as they are. Having rights to have guns is just word game. Actually it is - having rights to kill. Even get this idea in mind, that you have rights to kill is absurd. One more surprise about America is that I am amazed about huge number of religiosity here. Meantime how it goes with Gods #5 commandment?

Voting rights cant do harm for me. Guns can And I don't want that someone check this, because there is so many idiots out there. And mostly, the ones who does, don't care a sh*** about what happens after.

But maybe its about money again in this money drained country - about cooperations who doesn't want anything to change. Market is market, someone sell, someone buy.

I don't feel safe here. Or maybe its just some sort of shock for me in this society, but I don't feel safe, knowing that people can have guns.

People's voting rights CAN harm you. If the wrong man with the wrong intentions is voted into office any number of terrible things can happen. Like all other rights, the right to bear arms and the right to vote come with responsibility. Just because there are a small handful of crazy people out there who take advantage of these rights doesn't mean that the majority should have to give up those rights. It's unfair to try to force them to. If someone is crazy enough to kill others, not having a gun isn't going to stop him/her. People have tried to limit/remove this right before and it didn't work. I really doubt they will ever be able to take our right to bear arms away, at least not without a HUGE fight from the people. I live waaay out in country and I remember when Gore (I think) was talking about taking away guns, there were people here going crazy and talking about burying them in the backyard.

Then by your statement, there isn't just few crazy people. Seems crazy enough to vote bush for second term.

What I mean is voting doesn't harm me in direct way.

But I just don't know what is unfair about not having rights to have gun. Its sounds like from some middle age. If you don't have intentions to use this, then why do you have to have it?

And no, if someone is crazy enough to kill, it wont stop. But some here kill for show and popularity, and if you kill not with gun, your possibility to kill numerous people are small. Or get in blind anger after fisttfight - you are stronger and kicked my ###, but you see - I have a gun. Lets see who wins now.

I bet millions of people said the same thing prior to WWII. Please review the rise of Hitler and the voting / appointing by officials involved.

People have the right to protect themselves, their family and their property, and if that means killing someone, then so be it. Like another poster said, if the government outlawed guns the only people that would be able to get their hands on it would be the criminals, then you'd be in an even worse situation than you are now. We also have a thing here called seperation of church and state, so how about you don't bring God's Commandments up in the same conversation as your recommendation to change our Constitution. It's pretty good the way it is and has done well so far, so how about we just leave it alone. Who cares how old it is, I think there is much more need to protect ourselves now than there was before. I will probably never have to use a gun on anyone and I certainly hope I never do, but if someone came into MY home and tried to harm MY FAMILY you can bet your @$$ I'd kill him/her in an instant. And then I'd be very thankful for my gun and my right to bear arms.
