Friends,

Is the applicant the only person allowed into the consulate or anybody accompanying her also allowed in?

Unfortunately, I cannot be there in person and was planning to have my mom accompany my wife.

Just wondering if my mom has to wait outside the consulate or if she would be allowed to accompany my wife.

Any input is appreciated.

Usually, it is only the visa applicant and the USC that is allowed in. It varies depending on the Embassy, for example in Mumbai, the spouse is not allowed at the interview whereas in Delhi the USC is. However, as a rule, usually only the applicant and the USC are allowed in--not anyone else unless they have visa or or other business to handle at the embassy. Someone else who has gone through Chennai may clarify.

i'VE read of stories where mother-in-laws were allowed in.

i think u should e mail the embassy n get it clearified i too have heard several cases where the mom or dad of usc were allowed in ,

however i m not so sure for chennai
