Hey all, just thought I would make a little public service announcement for when people have gotten approved and are coming into the states. Not sure this is the right forum to post in, but figured more people would read this before going through the POEs.

When you are filling out your I-94's make sure you write very very clearly! When we went to get my husband's SSN he wasn't in the system and it was taking forever to verify his documents. We just found out this afternoon it is because they somehow mistook the N in his name for a W on his I-94 and that is what is in the system. (He doesn't have the neatest handwriting, so we realize its his fault, but we still think its pretty ridiculous, I mean the name was printed on the visa documents, actual K1 and his passport, but thats what they go by??) Means an extra trip to the airport, not a huge deal but probably avoidable, so be NEAT!

Also keep in mind that the I-94 is considered a legal name change document--be very careful that you write down everything. My husband doesn't have a middle name, but he has two last names. He was going to change his second last name to his middle name, but when we brought his paperwork (which included the I-94) to get the marriage certificate, the woman would only let him use his first name and first last name on the marriage certificate (despite the piles of documentation that had all three names on it) because that was all he had on the I-94.

You get the I-94 when you are flying over to the states. They staple it into your passport.

You get the I-94 when you are flying over to the states. They staple it into your passport.

Well, they are SUPPOSED to staple it into your passport. The CBP officer at Dublin THREW WES' INTO THE BIN and told us we didn't need it! We were too dumb to argue. When we went to the SS office a few days after his arrival we caught the error, and managed to convince the CBP at Pittsburgh Intl. Airport to give us a new one!

It was a rather hair-raising experience as you actually need the I-94 for your AOS, EAD and AP as well.

So make sure you get the dang thing - and also that it's filled out properly!

What do you put down on the I-94 for "8. Country Where You Live"?

Since they are coming here to live, do you put down USA, or their home country?
