NVC - Tax Transcript - Most Recent Tax Year - is that 2021 or 2020?

Hello!

For the NVC, they want my tax transcript from "the most recent tax year" -   NVC Financial Documents

Well, I filed my 2021 taxes in Feb of this year (2022). I had to file by paper because my spouse doesn't have a SSN or an ITIN (of course), and it's been more than 6 weeks. So I just called and spoke to someone at the IRS and they said that it could be up to 16 more weeks from today to process my tax return!!!

Our case was just sent to the NVC, so what if I don't have my 2021 tax return for the financial document section?  Can I send in my 2020 tax return?

I don't think I can file an extension now since I've filed on time before the deadline two days ago. The IRS told me they don't have any kind of paper stating the 16 weeks thing for me to show to the NVC. What do you think?

Too late for an extension.  Just submit a copy of your 2021 tax return package with all schedules and supporting documentation.   2020 is not the most recent tax year.

Did you see the part of the instructions that say submit a tax return transcript.....OR....Complete copy of federal tax return???  Pay attention to little words like OR.  It will serve you well moving forward.  You filed the return.  Send a complete copy including W2 and 1099 forms.  Everything you sent in the mail.
