LOS ANGELES (AP) - Hundreds of people who claim they were abused by clergy affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles can expect to be paid more than $1 million each in a $660 million settlement of their lawsuits. The deal, by far the largest settlement in the church's sexual abuse scandal, was reached Saturday, said Ray Boucher, the lead plaintiff's attorney.

The archdiocese, America's largest, and the plaintiffs were set to release a statement Sunday morning and hold a news conference Monday, he said.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the deal placed its value at $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church's sexual abuse scandal. The source spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the settlement had not been officially announced. The amount, which would average a little more than $1.3 million per plaintiff, exceeded earlier reports that the settlement would be between $600 million and $650 million.

what is sad about that...other victims are being made all over the world...because instead to make these "fathers" quit their charges or whatever they are called here, they just move them to a another far away place where nobody knows them…and where they can star new abuses using the faith and trust of people..... Here comes more money.....lots of.... At least this is what they do in Brazil...there is a monastery for nuns in the Northeast of Brazil where they found a lot of embryos hidden in the walls...meaning that thousand of aborts where performed there..... they just hide their mistakes…they don’t fix them….

Money rsrsrs they are great investors... own many buildings... I'm not sure if they still the major owner but they were at least the major investor in the army /weapons industry....where they made a lot of money.... Can you believe that !! the church fomenting the wars...one of the biggest of the word...and this money is nothing for them...they have a "reserve" for this kind of "reimbursement"....

That doesn't cover it all though. Here in Boston they had to sell about 1/2 of the property. It was really sad. I was Catholic at the time and in our own area we lost about 6 churches and that is just in two small towns.

Even the Boston Archdiocese land was sold and is being turned into condos.

Of course the Cardinal Bernard Law was promoted to the Vatican and was bestowed the honor of voting for the new Pope. That was done shortly before the DA in Boston was going to prosecute him. Can't do that now that he's in the Vatican.
