Considering transferring a Ukrainian K1 case to Montreal

My fiancee is Ukrainian and our K1 application arrived to NVC about 1 week ago. By default, all Ukrainian applications will be forwarded to the US Embassy in Frankfurt, Germany. Given that visa interview and medical appointments in Frankfurt, Germany have a sizeable backlog and my fiancee is currently waiting in Canada, we are now considering having NVC send our K1 application to the US Consulate in Montreal instead of Frankfurt. Are there any cons of doing this?

Montreal has a reputation for being slow

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Cello - have you considered having her go to the border and asking/applying for humanitarian parole?  My ukrainian significant other other is looking at doing this in a couple of weeks.  If yours is already in Canada, has she researched this (humanitarian parole) and decided not to pursue it?

Great question.

I’ve looked into this but have many questions about the process that I would need to find answers for before going with this solution. The questions are:

- Should she mention at the border having an ongoing K1 visa application?

- Should I accompany her at the border?

- Will she be required to temporarily stay in a detention center after crossing the border?

- Once she crosses, what are the steps that she should take to become my wife and apply for permanent residency?
