Hi! I'm 19 who came here through the petition of my dad when I was 17. We tried applying for my passport as soon as I got here, only to find out that my dad lost his naturalization certificate. We waited for a year to apply for another one and get his certificate.

A month ago we finally received it and applied for my passport. Just received a letter this morning from the Department of State requesting for my parent's marriage certificate. The issue is, my mom and dad weren't married but I was acknowledged by my dad in my birth certificate. What do I do about this? Can anybody drop the number I should contact?

You need written evidence that before you turned age 18:

* your father legitimated you:

1. he acknowledged in writing that he was your father.  His signature on your birth certificate works.

2. He agreed to provide financial support to you.  The I-864 he signed in order for you to get an immigration visa or green card works.

* you lived with your father.  Any government records addressed to each of you showing the same address worn. So drivers licenses issued to each of you before you turned age 18 work if they both show the same address.

* your father had legal custody over you. His marriage certificate with your mother works.
