Can petitioner help fiancee register for a cfo? (merged)

My filipina fiancee is still waiting for approval of her k1 visa. But in the mean time I am wondering if I can help her with the registration process for the cfo senimar when that time comes. She only has her cell phone and it is very difficult for her to do some things on her that thing considering how lousy the internet is in her province in the Philippines. So I'm wondering if I could assist her with the eventual registration for the cfo seminar. I am hoping someone will advise me on this issue.

You can probably help her with uploading documents, but when the time comes for her video call with the CFO counselor, she is going to need a steady internet connection to complete the CFO interview. You can't do the interview for her. Is there nowhere in her area that she can get better signal or access to a PC with a wired connection?

I filled the online forms for my wife and stepdaughter to create the account.  We had previously created an e-mail account we both share for  non-private family business type e-mail so I used that for my wife.  I had to create a new unique gmail address for the step daughter. There was a number of back and forth e-mails and SMS messages between my wife and the consoler and she took care of all that. Mostly not in English either.  I sent the requested docs since I had all those scans handy already.  The actual "counseling session" was rescheduled by SMS and then just a 5 minute call to my wife's phone .

My wife's was just a phone call, no video. I was with her in Skype when she did the call.

Good to know. I thought all the CFO calls were video.

Did the counselor ask you questions too, or were you just listening in?

I was just listening in. Mostly there to give my wife emotional support so that she wouldn't stress :)

  • 1 month later...

My filipina fiancee now has her k1 visa in hand . She asked me to go ahead and schedule the flight which I didn't want to do until she gets her cfo certificate but i went ahead and scheduled the flight anyway in about 3 more weeks. She said she would do the cfo when she gets up in the morning her time. I reminded her that she can call them if she wants to but I already know that they will tell her to register online because this is how it is done now. How long does it take to get the cfo certificate like this? i am probably being paranoid but i hope it doesn't take several weeks. I told her i will help her with the online stuff if she isn't comfortable.  I just don't want her to keep waiting to do it. Is it possible for her to get this certificate by the end of the week?  I am hoping she can do this on her phone but again i can help her if needed.

I don't know how long it takes because we are not at that stage yet and won't be for a long time. But, if I were you, I would have her do this immediately because the Biden administration is starting to ramp up the Covid/Monkeypox rhetoric, so who knows about future lockdowns. You two have waited long enough, why risk waiting any longer? Get it done and get her to the US ASAP.

Think about those people who were days away from being together in January of 2020 and then BOOM, the lockdowns hit.

Last October my wife signed up on a Monday morning.  We immediately supplied the documents they asked for.  She had her "counseling session" phone call around noon the next day and received the e-certificate by e-mail almost immediately thereafter.  So a day and a half if everything goes smoothly.  Be aware however if you get a counselor that wants to make things difficult or comes up with some curveball document requests things could take much longer.  Allot of it is up to the counselor and YMMV.  Three weeks 'should' be plenty of time though.

It can vary. Our counsler gave her a really hard time. They had to speak 3 times. After the session(s) are complete, they send the certificate right away. It was about a week and a half for us. Mostly, it depends on how quickly they can shcedule her.

As soon as we finally know we are about to pick up the visa. I bought her a plane ticket.

I gave her a two week lee way. She then just went to CFO. Same day she got her CFO Sticker.

One thing I would highly highly suggest is to bring ALL K1 paperwork so it saves you some time.

Depending on the counselor she was assigned to - some are easy to deal with and some will give you even some oddball requests.

They want some proof of pictures? no problem - her folder has pictures

They want to see to see the Affidavit of Support ? no problem, we have it.

Just be ready. Every questions the counselor had - she just answered truthfully.

Yes you are. I did all of the online stuff for my wife. Had the call a day after submitting the documents. Has the call and was told she was approved. I forget if we made payment after the call or before. We got the certificate immediately by email. We used that to fly. The actualsticker came to her house about 4 months later.
