Hey everyone! I wanted to see if anyone requested a legal name change on the N400, and if so, how long of a delay on the oath ceremony did you experienced? I have heard horror stories of people waiting months after the interview for oath ceremony simply because of a name change… Can anyone who requested a name change please share your experience. Thanks!

As noted above USCIS has zero authority to change your name. Only a court can. When USCIS issues you a naturalization certificate and doesn’t provide a lawful change of name document from federal court it becomes a mess and it doesn’t seems like USCIS is helpful.

Name change through naturalization has always struck me as high risk and unnecessary. The process is easy with state courts and can be done after you naturalize
