All but four cases within 100 of my wife's case were approved at about 1 year in. It's really frustrating. I actually called my Representative to inquire as to why the Texas Service Center has a time range of 5 months to 19.5 months seeing as how that is quite a gross disparity. I also said I believe USCIS is mismanaged as the N400 disparity really shows a lack of strategic management. Of course because of background checks and what not, cases will take different amounts of time, but I do not believe that these large time differences are only related to case abnormalities. We didn't file a case inquiry because we know what USCIS would tell them. It's doubtful that the call will result in any change for the current batch of immigration cases, but hopefully it will for those that come in the future.

Out of curiosity, how are you all viewing case numbers surrounding yours?

And that is unfortunate - I don't see much that the representatives can do in most cases (I know some people get lucky), and like you said, we know what USCIS is going to say. I think it's a system that we won't see change very much until they have an overhaul in how things work. It feels like the process has gotten inherently more complicated and slow over time.

In regards to the system: I agree, things have gotten very slow over time, even before covid. I have a sinking suspicion they could employee data analytics to help streamline the process as well as being partially funded by the Federal Government. Immigration is a benefit to the nation; immigrants will pay back the difference in taxes several times over during their working lifetimes, so I don't have any issue with the government supplementing USCIS funding with tax dollars.

What's the official processing time on the USCIS' website nowadays?

If your case is outside the estimated processing time, you may contact your congress representative's office. I've seen people having success getting their representative involved and getting things going.

20-43 is the processing for "all field offices". Most of them are looking at a year on the minimum end, but closer to 1.5-2+ on the max end for most offices.
Mine was transferred over to NBC so... not even sure what that means for processing times.

Mine was transferred to NBC, that is the only letter that I have 4/20/20.  However, when i called the USCIS after finding out that NBC time line for the EAC was 10 months, i figured I could then submit the case inquiry they then told me that it not at NBC but that it transferred back to vermont 4/21/20.  Maybe the same happened to you.  Call them to ask where it is exactly if it is infact still at NBC you can submit an inquiry.

Interesting, I'll have to check it out. I've never looked at the mobile apps before.

And this exactly. It was already ridiculously slow before COVID, and now we have the effects of the pandemic making an already awful system even worse. Obviously I don't know the inner workings of how applications are processed, but I can't imagine that it is an efficient system as it is right now. Maybe it's just because I feel a bit salty, but I imagine things just sit piled up and it's all up to an officers discretion. They just get to it when they get to it. Something somewhere certainly needs to be automated or done to help streamline things. I'd like to see more forms available for completion online, I think this would help mitigate some of the small issues we see pop up - my original GC had a name error on it, they used my maiden name instead of my married name. ALL but one piece of evidence I sent in had my maiden name (my passport), and all forms were filled out in my married name. Fudging up someones NAME seems like one of the stupidest mistakes possible to make. I get it, human error is a thing, but there are mistakes made that really shouldn't be.

I'd love to see tax dollars go towards funding the immigration process. As it is, it feels like we pay a hefty chunk only for that money to be thrown into the wind.

Agreed. We're salty as well, especially seeing as how the process seems to be extremely "unfair". I kept up with other months processing times for i751 at the beginning of the pandemic. Texas distributed all of the cases after June to field offices where people were then seeing a turnaround time of just a few months whereas all those before were kept in the same queue. Even now, the TSC times are published as 5 months to 19.5 months. It seems to me extremely unfair to have not used the managerial decision to send cases to field offices for adjudication as an opportunity to clear out the backlog seeing as how they're supposed to be processed in the order they are received. What's more is that the cases sent to field offices were approved with no interview. We got transferred to NBC without any notice whatsoever, not even a letter, after having had a K1 interview and an AOS interview. Based upon the evidence submitted by others we went above and beyond with our documentation. The process is just simply broken and of course, subject to the political winds that blow every four years. Sorry they messed up something so simple as your name!

I agree, that seems really unfair. The timelines themselves are ridiculous and I don't know why they think what they post is reasonable - as you mentioned, there is such a huge disparity in time lines. How can you say 20-43 months? That maximum end is double the minimum, by no means is that a useful timeframe to be telling people.
In my case being transferred was a little less shocking - I had a K1 interview but not an AOS interview so it would make sense to have one for my ROC. The odd thing is that I have seen a few people in the same situation getting approval without an interview still. There isn't much in the way of consistency in how apps are handled, at least in the past few months, with cases being transferred without notice, and like you said, the cases transferred from Texas being approved within a short few months whilst cases before those were just stuck sitting.

I don't know. This whole thing is infuriating and I'd like to see an improved process, but my expectations are low about that happening anytime soon

Nothing in the short term will be resolved anytime soon, I agree. Perhaps after the new congress is seated and the new executive is sworn in, but I doubt it even then. It's shameful to have immigrants that are part of a family stuck in limbo for such a long time.

The a similar thing happened to me. But I got notified that my case was transferred on the app, never got a letter, submitted an inquiry which lead to them telling me it was indeed transferred to NBC. A couple weeks later I talked to a rep on the phone who told me that my case had actually never moved, which made me distrust all of the information I had been given up until that point. Sooo... I spoke to another rep who told me case was at my local office, then another rep confirmed that my case was indeed at NBC. The reason I was asking was because I need to update information about my case and wanted to be sure of where to send it. So I guess I’ll send it everywhere !!! 🤣

Hi everyone! Hope you're all hanging in there.

Just wanted to share that I secured an Infopass appointment on 12/3 to get my passport stamped. I'll update you on how that goes and the restrictions that are put in place during the pandemic if anyone is interested.

I now have a different passport than when I applied for ROC, and the agent confirmed that it is not a problem as long as it is valid.

Happy Monday to all and good luck for another week of waiting!
