Does anyone know what it is like to be applying for a new job during ROC limbo? 
My 18 month extension is up in January, and I have my N-400 processing at the same time as my ROC, a job opening has come up that I'm interested in but not sure what issues there may be for those of us in limbo with expiry dates coming up.
I'm not sure if I'll need to prove PR and what exactly I would show if needed.

You can make an appointment with the USCIS contact center near the time your extension expires to get an i551 stamp to continue to show proof of your LPR status which remains after the expiration of the extension letter. 

 

Most offices will only provide the i551 stamp during COVID if you demonstrate a need for one... Like getting a new job, travel out of USA, or renewal of a driver's license. Bring travel tickets, a job offer letter, or show an expiring driver's license a couple of weeks before your extension expires and they should stamp it.

 

An i551 stamp in your passport or on an i94 is the only proof available of your continued LPR status after your extension runs out. Note your status does not change when your extension runs out you remain an LPR only your proof of LPR status runs out. 

 

If you are not taking a trip offshore or renewing a driver's license or you don't get a new job you don't need to do anything.

Yes I'm aware there's no change in status, just a lack of proof to show it. 
This new job opening is the only reason I'm inquiring about it

Will they stamp an expired passport? Or does it need to be valid?

I wonder about the same, seeing I have no reason to pay for passport renewal (and travel to consulate) otherwise. However, I do see getting a stamp on the i-94 as a potential easy way out, assuming the copy you print out from the i-94 website is good enough..

Hi folks I’m in the same boat as I travel a lot out of the US. Last week on my return to the US I was brought to secondary inspection as they wouldn’t agree that the extension letter was in still valid. (They couldn’t count 18 months lol) 

 

someone mentioned making an appointment with the local USCIS office. Can you let me know how to do that? Is there a website? I would like to do this ASAP

You have to call and say that you are requesting an infopass. The system will fwd you to a representative and then they will call you back within 7 business days to schedule that infopass where they would stamp your passport.

If you don't wish to stamp your passport or it is expired then you get a I94 produced at the USCIS field office with the i551 stamp. If you request an i551 stamp on an i94 I believe you need to bring passport style photos to go on the i94 document produced at the USCIS field office.

I was told this morning by a 2nd tier that the ROC can take 20 - 43 months ..  

 

I have the immigration app and am EAC1990097****** I have been searching 400 cases around mine and would select the i-751... also I would go to those ending in 5000, 6000 etc... 

 

Who are these people that have been approved already when literally 98% 99% IF THAT have been completed.

All but four cases within 100 of my wife's case were approved at about 1 year in. It's really frustrating. I actually called my Representative to inquire as to why the Texas Service Center has a time range of 5 months to 19.5 months seeing as how that is quite a gross disparity. I also said I believe USCIS is mismanaged as the N400 disparity really shows a lack of strategic management. Of course because of background checks and what not, cases will take different amounts of time, but I do not believe that these large time differences are only related to case abnormalities. We didn't file a case inquiry because we know what USCIS would tell them. It's doubtful that the call will result in any change for the current batch of immigration cases, but hopefully it will for those that come in the future.

20-43 months! It just keeps getting better... 

On my end, my case was supposedly transferred to a new office back in March and was ready to be scheduled for an interview, then one was apparently scheduled (never got any notification whatsoever), then it got cancelled (same thing), now I’m back to it being ready to be scheduled for an interview. 
I will soon have to update my personal info with USCIS so I talked to an officer to ask where to send my paperwork, they told me Nebraska, who first handled my case, and they told me my case was never actually transferred. 
So... all of this to say that I’m terrified of getting the wrong information because it is different every time, and I keep checking all apps/website daily. I’m gonna go for an infopass to stamp my passport next week, as my extension letter expires.

What's the official processing time on the USCIS' website nowadays?

If your case is outside the estimated processing time, you may contact your congress representative's office. I've seen people having success getting their representative involved and getting things going.
