I am thinking about *possibly* going to Egypt to be with Adam for ten days if he isnt getting here soon...

My ? is... Since we are married now, in order for me to get a visa to Egypt... Do I have to pay a fee for a visa? Or do I get my visa stamp free since I am married to an Egyptian Citizen?

I thought I heard something before but didnt remember from who or where... Any one have any ideas or know about this or who for me to ask?

I also heard I can get my passport stamped at Cairos Airport? Anyone know about that either ?

I can't find the link that someone gave me but you do have to still get a visa stamped on your passport. When I went the last time it took all of two seconds. When you get off the plane and go down the hallway you'll come to a set of windows...kind of right after the line of men carrying the signs w/people's names on them. Go to one of those windows and I think it's either $10 or $20 to get it stamped. (USD). Then right after that is the place you go through to show your passport and then the front doors.

When are you thinking of going?

I know what you mean. :( I"m leaving in 5 days and I have tears streaming down my face from the reality. Almost like I've built a wall from january until just now.

Anyhoo......although it's a lot of money that is a good price considering it's August. I think I paid about $1,300 for mine back in February. Try Alitalia. That's what I'm flying and the layover is only 3 1/2 hours in Milan. Sometimes they can be cheap depending on the deals you find. I'd check out:

airgorilla.com

kayak.com

cheaptickets.com

Good luck and pamper yourself right now 'cause you deserve it. ((((hugs))))

Hi Tamara,

Yes you will need to obtain a visa once you land at Cairo's airport. It is $15 USD. I wish you luck with your tickets as I too am thinking of flying to see Wael possibly in Sept and staying for awhile. It's just terrible for us to be away from our loved ones. Best of luck to you.

Have you tried www.travelocity.com or www.orbitz.com ?

I think the $15 fee is waived if you have an Egyptian marriage certificate, but if you got married outside of Egypt (like in Italy or something) then the marriage would have to be authenticated at the consulate. I know Ramy and I will have to have that done once we marry here--basically we'll bring our marriage certificate to the consulate, they'll interview us (must be done by appointment) and then they'll issue us some kind of certificate that I will need for my visas when we plan to travel back and forth. I don't know if this makes any sense but I found the info here: http://www.egyptnyc.net/english/marriage.asp

If you married there, then I don't think you have to pay a visa fee because your marriage is already valid in Egypt.

Hope this helps!

I didn't change my name yet so my passport name has my old name on it. Do you think I should bring that huge marriage certificate with me on my carry-on?

After we were married they ask me if I wanted to get a visa for 5 years so I wouldn't have to pay the $ 15 everytime I came back. So I did but I just don't remember how much extra it cost me. It is a huge stamp much different from the 2 little stamps I always would get the 3 times I have been to Egypt. I had to get this stamp after we were married as I had to show them my marriage certificate.

Hope this helps!!

Hi Tamara Just letting you know when I traveled to Egypt I went thru a travel agent and got a much cheeper deal then online. I only paid $960 for round trip. IF you have some time check out a agent they will surch for the best deal.

I paid less than that for my trip in Dec too but summer is much more expensive. There are a lot of other factors involved.

I paid $809 in December for a March flight from Orbitz...then again I had a miserable 16 hour layover in Vienna.

5. Any Egyptian citizen holding a foreign passport will be granted a visa free of charge (gratis) after declaring proof for Egyptian nationality like Egyptian (passport, personal or family identification card), also the foreign wife to Egyptian husband will be granted a visa free of charge after declaring a proof for their marriage (Egyptian Marriage Certificate only).

6. American citizens (holding American passport and not any other kind of documents) can obtain a visa (single entry or multiple entries) through the Consulate for $15. Also, they can obtain a visa upon arrival in Egypt (The departure from the arrival port will be delayed for some time until obtaining the visa).

Thanks sooo much !!! that is a good website and very informative! (F) -Tam
