I'm bumping some old threads for continued improvement suggestions.

Any other frequently used terms we need to incorporate?

The defn for the I-94 still says that there is a work permit connected with it. The last 2 times that I crossed I was required to have an I-94 and was told that I could NOT work in exchange for money---I could volunteer, though.

I have seen elsewhere on VJ (don't ask me where: too long ago and I don't remember) that the work permit (EAD?) had to be applied for rather than passed out gratis at the border.

If I am misinformed, just ignore me and this post. I am only at the stage of NVC receipt and know practically nothing.

"Arrival/Departure record. This will be issued at the originating airport, on the flight or at the border if traveling from Canada or Mexico. It should be stamped with a 90 day work authorization and should be kept until the USCIS (INS) interview "

This is still correct but out of context, except it should be changed to "It MAY be stamped with a 90 day work authorization". Some POEs will stamp the I-94 for a K-1, giving them an EAD that is valid for 90 days only.

The one-year EAD based on the I-485 can only be filed when the AOS application has taken/is taking place (after marriage).

Your bog-standard I-94 will not have or be eligible for EA.
