UK Chancellor Renounces LPR Status after being an MP for 7 years

Some news from the UK, it seems that the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister), and Member of Parliament for 7 years admitted that he had LPR Status in the US. It looks like he had to give it up on his first trip to the US in an official capacity, my guessing that he was ineligible for A-1 diplomatic status while being an LPR...but I'm wondering, how the was he getting away with maintaining LPR status while obviously not living in the US, being an MP and also a member of the government for so long?

Wondering the same thing. Sounds like he was an LPR in name only, most likely according to USCIS he had abandoned his status years ago.

Apparently he's been using it for traveling to the US as a glorified tourist visa for quite awhile, it only came up as a problem when he had to do official travel per the BBC.

 

This made for some wild reading. xD Pretty sure that LPRs aren't ever supposed to file as a NRA as the IRS has the 'green card test', so doesn't seem like this was actually in compliance with the law, nor by using it for travel purposes when he didn't live here.
