I only sent it overnight with the post office. I did not make any special requests or pay extra money

I sent regular. They sent 3 case numbers for the AOS, EAD, AP. Checked them a few minutes ago and it showed "Card was Produced. April 6. Case received March 30.

When did you mail in your forms? And to which office? Chicago or Phoenix?

Is an EAD needed is you already have the green card?

No

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Note that the Chicago and Phoenix addresses are not field offices.  They are just USCIS lockboxes, ie. receiving centers.  They do not process EADs.  The lockbox staff send the I-765 packages to the National Benefits Center (NBC), which handles EAD processing nationwide.  OP was just super lucky.
