Timeline

Federal Records Center has record of A-file for the immigrant and  the office has sent for it 

case is pending (on Hold) till the A-file gets there

no one can guess how long it will take to review the A-file after the office gets it and the case will be on hold till an officer actually reads the enclosed info and imputs it into computer with the petition

Until the file gets there.  Could be several months to more than a year.

Things some people have tried that have caused FRC to move faster.  
 

1. file an FOIA request.  This will force FRC to prioritize your file retrieval.  The risk is that FOIA processing takes priority over USCIS.  So while your file will be out of the limestone cave, it won’t be in the hands of the IO assigned to your case until FOIA is done. 
 

2. The email addresses and phone numbers of each FRC are paired online.  https://www.archives.gov/frc/directors You can email and/or call each one. The responsible director might take pity on you.
