Just wondering how long it takes to get an instruction letter from the embassy. Our case was just received by the London embassy. Also heard sometimes they send an email can anyone confirm?

You don’t need the letter for London. It just tells you to go find your instructions on their website. You do not have to show it at the interview. You will show your interview confirmation to get in the embassy. Print the confirmation after you have booked your interview. Do you have your new case number (LNDXXXXXXXXX) ?
 Do this for London K1:

  1. Submit DS-160.
  2. Gather documents. (for interview as well as documents for medical appointment). You don't want a looming appointment if you hit a hiccup and won't have what you need for the appointment.
  3. Book your medical date by calling the clinic. 020 7486 7822.
  4. Book the courier, pay, and pick an interview date all at the same time on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv. Select “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment”, whether you have the letter or not.  Leave 5-7 calendar days between medical and interview for best results. If that website gives you an error, wait a day and try again.
  5. Attend your medical.
  6. Attend your interview.

Gather documents step is important. See lists:

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/required-documents/

http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-bring.htm

And do read all the information and FAQs on the embassy website instructions. Don't assume you picked up everything you need to know in the K1 threads. Each embassy does things in their own way.

Yes I did receive the letter with the new case number, but on the tracker it does say to wait for the instructions from the embassy.

Wait or carry on with the steps mentioned above. Your choice.

Can you also tell me once I submit it do the embassy sends a letter or email? I can’t book the medical/interview until I hear back from the embassy?

Thanks.

Not how it works for London.  Receiving the file from NVC kicks off the generation of the instruction letter from London.

The medical clinic will ask your new LND case number over the phone when you call. When you go to the appointment they want to see the case number in writing. You can show what you got from NVC or the London letter to verify the case number with them. Do you have your shots up to date, police certificate, and the  care record print out from your GP/NHS? You need that to take to the medical as well.

So here's where I'm confused I do have a letter from the NVC but nothing from the embassy. Status says ready which I'm assuming they are ready for me to schedule the interview right? I have submitted ds-160 today.

Yes I have everything ready for the medical and the interview. I'm trying to book the appointment and the option says I have received a letter/email from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a k1 visa appointment but I haven't received anything from the embassy.

Should I just book the medical first?

Yes book your medical first. They have gotten behind and have been weeks out before an appointment is available. You need to know that date so you can pick an interview date at least a week after the medical.

Did you read the list/order I posted to you in this thread?  It works for London. A shortcut instead of waiting 2-3 weeks on a letter that tells you the same info you’ve had a week now.
#3 Book medical.

#4 Book interview. Select “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment”, whether you have the letter or not.

if your status says ready, it means London is ready for you to do the DS-160, gather your documents, book a medical, then book an interview.

Thank you you've been so helpful :) So you are basically saying embassy should send me something eventually? I read on the embassy's website if more than 2 weeks have passed since your petition has been approved and you have not received a letter from the embassy please contact us through the contact form. It's been sitting on ready for 10 days now. I will try to schedule the medical on Monday and hope for the best.

One more question in regards to affidavit of support. Does this need to be signed in black ink by petitioner or can I just bring a print out?
