Hello everyone,

We have finally received our interview date for our CR-1 process and are so excited!!! However, I do have a couple questions that maybe you guys can help answer :)

  1. From what I read, I, the sponsor/spouse do not need to be present at the interview. Is this correct? If so, are there benefits to me actually going there with her? I ask because theh consulate managed to schedule the interview on the on the day I am supposed to start my new job, I could try moving this around but it is an inconvenience and I am not sure I want to reschedule the interview (I don't know when the next available date is).
  2. The other thing we are having a hard time with is scheduling the medical exam. The appproved doctor in our state only has appointments after our interview (our interview is on the 25th of April, his first appointment is on the 26th). He states that is OK and common for this process. Is this really true? What will happen to our process/interview if we do not have the medical exam done by the interview date?

Thanks!

1. are u doing CR 1 or AOS? CR1 usually ( not always) the petitioner and the beneficiary are not on the same country. if its the case, obviously you dont need to come as the petitioner.

if both of you live in the same country right now ( reading from your explanation), its better to come with ur beneficiary. it wont hurt. u might not be able to go in to the building, but still...just in case

2.most likely you will get RFE. just go to the interview no matter what

Interview in US consulate for I 130 outside the US,   u will not be allowed in

very seldom do they let the USC even sit in a waiting room

reasons are:

  • security
  • space
  • and interview is up to the immigrant to pass on her own
  • and now health issues

starting a new job in Brazil when moving to the US?

Doing a CR-1. Although I am in Brazil now, I had plans to go back to the US. Would the RFE delay the visa by a lot?

Yeah, I figured they wouldn't even let me in, due to COVID and all. No, I am starting a new job in the US, one that requires me be present for orientation on the 25th (same day as the interview). I am currently employed in the US as well but travel often back and forth to Brazil. I could ask my new company to move my date, but I am not sure its worth the hassle if I won't even be allowed in.

its not worth it in lieu of starting a new job and not being able to go in

great to have the emotional support from spouse  so be online so she can talk to u after interview/  it is an emotional experience and the immigrant can feel overwhelmed

and best to u both

Hello!

I was in Rio Consulate on Monday 11. i'll write a review soon.

There were a lot of people missing the medical results. They were approved and the consular officer told them that they were only missing the results to proceed with their cases and issuing their visa. It is going to delay a little bit, but as far as I'm reading here, i'ts about one month or so. I know that for people that are already waiting for years, one day is a lot.

Try to get the exam in another state. Then your wife will be 100% ready to go after her interview, and no concerns at all.

I did my medical apppointment, exams and took one vaccine that I needed all in the same day. I was in a rush to be ready on time.

There's a lot of people that are having problems to schedulke the exams in time. But go to the interview anyways! We don't know how long it would be to another date to be avaiable.

I wish you all the best!!!! Everything is going to be okay! God bless you!

2.  The visa issue will be delayed until after they receive the medical result, plus how ever long their queue is to review them.

Thanks for the information guys, I appreaciate it :).

@MLGood after I posted I did exactly that, I emailed all the approved doctors in Brazil and ended up traveling to Belo Horizonte. We were able to complete all of her medical exams last week (all the results were negative, she also only had to take one shot). Now we are just waiting for her interview date, which is on the 25th of April. Like you said, even a delay of a single day for us that have already been waiting for so long is too much hahaha, it was not the cheapest option to travel all the way to MG for a simple medical exam, but it is what it is.

I'm so happy for you!!!!

Regarding the interview, I was well prepared, but the consular officer didn't asked for anything. The only things I provided when I got there were: Original marriage certificate, original birth certificate and passport (to the brazilian guy that works there, and later to a brazilian lady). She took the documents and put the information in the system. She asked me a few things: Name, place of birth, my husband's name and place of birth, my name after married, because I chose to change it, things like that).

There was only one consular officer interviewing everyone. It as a very nice lady.

I wish you all the best!!!! Everything will be okay!
