Passport surname different than green card

I need advice,

When we married my wife kept her maiden name. Her Green Card, Drivers License and SS card show her maiden name. When she renewed her passport in June, she had her surname changed to her new married name.

I did not realize it would be so time consuming and costly to have her green card updated. I applied for new SS card with married name so she could update drivers license. SS responded her green card will need to show married name before new card is issued.

We need to travel to Philippines in July. My question is. What documents does she need to take with her? We have marriage certificate, ROM, old passport.

I contacted the Philippine Embassy in DC earlier this week, still no response.

Your help and advice is always appreciated.

Thanks

please complete a timeline as it would help to know pOE and marriage date to advise if it is better to wait for naturalization ceremony to mark the form for last name change

and that is the easiest way to change it after getting the green card

We too have been trying to contact Philippines Embassy, they did respond to Email.  You are now realizing getting that married name on all documents works best, so are we.

Or not changing names at all......My wife never changed her name, and we have had zero issues.

We are eligible to file the N-400 and change name there.

I am hoping we can have her passport changed back to her maiden name for now, as a last resort.

I would think taking documents showing evidence of name would be sufficient.

Maybe even a I-551 stamp would work.

To get an I-551 stamp you need to pay for I-90 to change the name. They won't just give it to you.

Carry a copy of the marriage certificate, it matches green card name . I do hope your wife will do N-400 , and she will get a freshly minted US Passport in name of choice.

we are totally on the same boat. so much time and headache to change the name. on a side note, many people who's from indonesia only have 1 name. no surname. just a name, that's headache for them when they are in the states, i understand if they want to add their spouse's last name to reduce the stress

OP. your wife did request her passport's name to be change to married name right? not by mistake from the embassy?

My wife changed her name when we got married, but for typical bureaucratic reasons with her home country, changing her name on her foreign passport was a hill she did not want to climb.  She never had any issues traveling with a name difference on her foreign passport and her GC.

I have traveled several times with my green card in my maiden name and passport in my married name. My marriage certificate sufficed. I’ve had no issues.

GC, passport, marriage certificate.  In the PH, the IO will not even need to see her GC.  Returning to the US, her marriage certificate will tie her GC and passport names.

Don't do this.  It's unnecessary and also futile.  DFA will not revert her PH passport to her maiden name without divorce/annulment paperwork or spouse death certificate.
