Or do you imply that an officer is more likely to grant a B visa to a Putin supporter fearing that otherwise they would apply for asylum once inside the US?

 

I mean it’s probable assuming political questions are allowed during an interview.

It is an odd time to be planning holiday trips.

Indeed. I would guess low chances for both groups of people in any event.
 

But immigrating to the US is a very low priority for Russians trying to escape the regime. Plenty of more accessible countries. I speak from experience of dozens of my friends and family members.

Of course, I assume like Ukrainians most will stay much closer.

It is not illegal, most comments from lawyers recommend waiting until you have US citizenship.

Why would it be illegal? It may throw doubts on to the validity of your asylum claim. But that will be very individually specific.

I think it depends on the reason for asylum. E.g. it would be odd for a person claiming to escape potential prosecution because of their political views / sexual orientation / religious beliefs / etc. and then go back as soon as you get your GC. 

 

Illegal might be a strong word but I definitely knew several asylees who went back to home countries in a way so US officials wouldn't find out. 

Guessing they knew something I don't otherwise why jumping through hoops for that...

Hacking on YouTube has this question come up all the time, and I have seen it asked a few times here.

 

His view is to play it safe and wait for Citizenship on the basis if you have to go through Adjustment and later Naturalisation you would/should declare your journeys. Seems fair to me, also seems very likely people forget to mention all elements of their journeys abroad. And if you are fleeing from death etc the last place you would want to go was the place you fled from.

 

There is also the well I left when it was bad and now it is OK argument, however US does not see asylum as a temporary situation, once you have PR then you are good to go.
