Police Certificate from Spain

Hi All

My British husband is trying to obtain a police certificate from Spain.  He lived in Tenerife for 2 years about 20 years ago.  We are having the following problem:

The Spanish website: https://www.mjusticia.gob.es/en is directing us to register with Cl@ve.  This seems to be a way to prove your identity and pay for services from the Spanish government.  Cl@ve requires a DNI number (Spanish National ID number).  Similar to a Social Security number in the USA.  My problem is he doesn't have a DNI number.  He only has his British passport and a British National Insurance Number.  Neither of these work and are rejected by the site.

Has anyone tried to obtain a police certificate from Spain?  I'm hoping someone who is not a Spanish citizen, but who was successful in doing this can guide us.

Thanks for any help you can give.

For those living outside Spain (or those unable to apply online or in person) the application can only be made by post.

Not sure if this process still works. Please update if it does~

It appears you still have to pay through cl@ve but we're still working on it

Hi @Educ8r - just wondering if your husband had any luck getting hold of the police certificate from Spain without being in the country? I'm in the same boat - British national with no cl@ve account living back in the UK, but lived in Spain a few years ago.

Would appreciate any tips you have to share, and if possible a brief overview of what you did to get the certificate. Many thanks in advance!!
