I think you might be misunderstanding what that poster wrote: his expedite request was received, he is still waiting for approval / decision as of this past Friday.

 

I might be mistaken and others are welcome to correct me if so but I thought the financial hardship needs to be on the USC not intending immigrant.

That was my understanding as well. The argument has to be something like "without my spouse/fiance(e) here, I (the USC) am suffering financial hardship due to X,Y and Z." Such as a case where the foreign spouse/fiance(e) is the breadwinner or a major contributor to the USC's household expenses.

He said he "got approved" about the expediting request. What he is waiting now for is the NOA2, which could take up to 45 days.

I think it's worth applying for an expedite in any case, worst case scenario is it gets rejected. It doesn't harm to try.

I personally also knew only about the petitioner's hardships that could be grounds to expedite a case. However, a lot of people were asking about expediting their Ukrainian cases due to a potential war between Ukraine and Russia earlier this year, and the answers here on VJ were that the ongoing wars in other parts of the world have never been grounds to expedite. So Ukrainians should expect the same treatment. But we see now that the policies have changed and maybe USCIS is now more "tolerant" about the expedite requests.

I believe he misspoke. Read his other posts. Also that would be the first time when someone’s expedite got approved the same day as it was filed.

I filed two expedite requests on behalf of my Russian fiancée. The first was denied two days after I submitted it; the second received a response about 2 hours after submitting it that it was “being adjudicated” and I’d hear back within 45 days — the expedite was not explicit denied or accepted in this case, likely because it was already being adjudicated at the time the request was submitted. 

 

You can surely file an expedite request though, it can’t hurt.

Ukrainians are expedited as a group for political reasons, so not a valid comparison.

 

Russians are in the all other category, if you have a basis apply, it is free and you never know as it is an individual call.

To jump off of this, however, it wasn't just us saying that the expedites were unlike to be approved; every Ukrainian who tried an expedite before the war got denied. Now, those same filers are getting expedite approvals, so I don't think USCIS' standards have changed at all.

Didn't you just prove my point by saying the same people who got denied before are now being expedited? I was talking about VJ members who mentioned other ongoing (and past) wars not being a valid reason to USCIS for an expedite. So it's not the definition of war that has changed but the policies about handling such cases.

I just haven't seen any examples of a Russian beneficiary's case being expedited due to the war yet. I asked @Mike20090622 for an update on his situation but it seems he did not get the expedite approved yet. Every expedite is decided individually so it will depend on the circumstances of each request.
