I know mold and smell are a problem many people complain about with front loaders.  I do more than half of all the laundry ( not bad for a guy, right?) and each week I do a white load with some bleach.  I do believe that is why we never have any moldy smell.

I honestly think until society changes it's perception of electronic items as being disposable, we're stuck with crappy reliability.  We need repairs to be cheaper than replacements.  We're the age of techno junk...it's sad.  

Just last year replaced the Kenmore top load washing machine in our Keys vacation home.  I bought it when we built the place in 1996, and it was the most basic and cheapest washer Sears was selling at the time.  I think I paid just under $125.  It was still working and had never been repaired (made for Kenmore by Whirlpool).  Just used too much water for the expensive Keys water bill and I kept thinking it would quit someday when I really needed it.  After 25 years I figured I got my monies worth.

Whirlpool also owns Amana, which appliances tend to be cheaper than those named "Whirlpool."

 

I found a father-son team years ago who restored dryers.  I got a Kenmore 80 Series.  Best dryer EVER.

 

Twice, years apart, I bought floor models (one washer, one dishwasher).  Never EVER again.

 

Regarding water-heaters (not yet discussed here), I found a wholesaler that sells chiefly to contractors but also to the public.  I've gotten two State heaters from there.  It's been easy to find people to pick them up and deliver them.  State is apparently #2 in the industry (for quality), with A.O. Smith or whoever bought them (Bradford?) as #1.

I flipped the laundry for the first time at this place a few weeks ago, and needed to figure out how the front-loaders that came with the place work. We've lived here about 9 months 🤣

 

I don't really have any problem doing laundry, it's just PRG almost always does it before I can think about it.

If you leave the door open and pull the detergent drawer slightly open, no mold, no smells.  And, I don't understand why people don't give the door seal a wipe from time to time.  I did on my top loads years ago, I do on my vehicles for the door seals, so why not the washer?

Just came across this thread... oh my. Had a nightmare scenario with Samsung back in the day, with a malfunctioning washer/dryer - not just one, but the replacement, and the replacement's replacement which all failed within days of purchase. Dealing with them stretched on for a good month - promises of service calls (no one would ever show up), a direct-tv guy (kid you not! they would send those people out under some kind of weird contract with no skills in how to fix an appliance and make them call into some other person on a phone until they were put on hold for hours and gave up), until eventually admitting why yes you do have a warranty with us that we are supposed to honor but it's too bad there's just no service people in your area to fix it. Piles of paperwork and hours of phone calls for them to fight with us about replacement units which would then fail upon plugging them in (there was a major malfunction in these particular units to the point that someone had made a website with thousands of complaints as a warning). Eventually went back to the store and kicked up a fuss, the owner understood and admitted they had major problems with Samsung - he removed the offending units from the house and gave us GE for free.

One of our older units used to collect a crazy amount of mold. Leaving the drawer and the door open didn't help. With a septic system bleach isn't the best thing to be constantly running through either, but vinegar and baking soda worked pretty well too. Eventually though, the mold starts growing under the gasket and inside the drum. It also starts growing inside areas you cannot reach (where the drawer slots into the unit). If it's wet, it's going to grow, even if you can't see it. Older models had some kind of flaw though that really made the mold problem worse.

Yes it is all their appliances. THe worse part is finding a tech who will service them. Most will not and like you experienced with a direct -tv guy showing up they actually sent out dish network guys to many ppl too. They have some kind of thinking that regular non Samsung techs don't know anything as they aren't certified. WEll it's not that they aren't samsung certified. It's that they can't be bribed to lie and drag it out the way the direct tv and dish network ppl are. All states required service/repair ppl to be certified by the state and are much more qualified to do these repairs. Thing is they don't want to work on defected appliances because they know full well that the "fixes" are not fixes and don't want their companies name destroyed buy faulty repairs. Real techs can't back up their work and don't want to service them.

 

I'm glad you in the end the store stepped up. Sadly there are 100 of thousands just like that still fighting. 

 

Some ppl are having issues with Samsung even after the fridges flood their house with samsung saying it was their fault. Appliances are catching fire and they still deny it, just today Samsumg told a person they put too much food in their fridge and that was why the back wall was icing up and not keeping proper temperatures. Heck one of their techs told the someone that you shouldn't open the left side of the door. only the right side of their French door fridge. 🙄

 

My tech came out and this was their idea of a repair.  The wire is in the exact same spot the other wires was in that got all cut up. The drawer has already jammed twice. I still have to get them to send me my free icemaker repair. As each repair needs to be a separate ticket.

Yup, that's the thing, mold can be growing even if you don't see it or smell it. I had an issue with mold in a rental apartment once and I'm just super paranoid after that. The climate here can get humid enough that it's a concern, so I figured just pay a little more for the microban option just to be on the safe side.

Whattt, the fire thing is crazy. I can see that leading to lawsuits, sounds very hazardous. Considering Samsungs aren't exactly the cheapest on the market I'm surprised to hear of this level of defects and the poor repair service. I guess they're mostly selling on the brand name?

Yes multiple fires. Those that went to court have won against Samsung the scary part is they will still deny it.  The second pictures is what happens when your ice maker starts to free over. WHen it does start to thaw sometimes when it isn't pouring all over your kitchen floor or freezing back up under the deli drawer it goes through the back. Then it soaks all your insulation. WE all know what happens when you get wet insulation. Want to know Samsungs fix for this issue. They put a sticker over the rust spot. Then tell you it's an insulating sticker
